| WICCAN Tools Athame (black-handled) - The ritual knife, it is used to concentrate and direct your power. It is not used for cutting. Boline (White-handled) - is used for cutting e.g. for preparing herbs you wish to use etc Wand - This is used to capture energies other than personal energy. For example, it may be used for energy from a full moon so that you can use it in your spell work. Candle - The flame symbolizes illumination. Candles play an important part in many spells. Censor - This provides a scent which can aid in spells and rituals. It is also used as it can represent the element Air. Chalice - Essential in most rituals. Pentacle - The five-point star. symbolizes the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) and the fifth, ether. Besom (broom) - used in cleansing the circle. Cords - Some use a cord to measure out their circle. also: may symbolize binding, is used in spell work or worn around the waist. Speculum - A crystal, black mirror or bowl of water, used for scrying. Images may be seen or perceived. Altar - Placed to the north of the circle, but where you actually work within the circle may vary depending on the ritual/spell being worked. Includes relevant items such as representations of the elements, the goddess and god, and any items that are going to be used etc... Book of Shadows - A "notebook". It contains spells, rituals tables of correspondences... It's personal, so you can include whatever you like (within reason :-) !!) Sword - Has the same uses as the athame. It symbolizes the intellect and right thinking. |
