Sketches

I was born near the convergence of two rivers, and about 45 miles from the ocean. Water is one of my favorite subjects. I love portrait work, and flowers.

I Could Have Danced All Night ©1996 Randy Cahoon My First Portrait. My watercolor instructor had warned us off of portraits--he felt amateurs would have trouble with skin tone and that the face was too complex for beginners. I did this painting at home, and never took it to class. The source photo was a grainy little black and white magazine ad about the size of this thumbnail. The finished painting is 18" x 20". I loved the joyful expressions on this couples' faces.

Snowy Mountain ©1992 Randy Cahoon

Ballpoint pen sketch on notebook paper--very primitive! The snowflakes started out as individual circles, then I filled in the background. This was the cover illustration of my business 1992 Christmas card.
