| Tim first joined the Club at the Coogee Aquarium in 1966/67, having swimming lessons with Cleone Ferguson under the direction of Terry Straney. In the 1969/70 season, he began some afternoon training sessions with Club coach John Schwab, which continued when the Club moved to Sunstrip Pool. Although not a contender in the championships as a junior, there were usually pointscore wins each season. This included the 1972 Winter Season Point Score. In later years, younger sister Judith would also be dragged down to winter swimming. This continued until the winter division ceased operations after the 1982 season. Although some years were spent overseas in the late '80's and early '90's, Tim has got a Swimathon badge every other year. Except when overseas he has generally earned a merit award, and has always swum all strokes each week. Club Captain in 1980/81, and in various seasons a handicapper, he has been on the Committee since 1993/94. Tim organises the Club's entry into Ocean Swims. Tim is a great mentor to young and reluctant swimmers. He has been very effective in encouraging and supporting members of all ages to participate and improve their swimming. He assists with the learn to swim campaign, and was awarded his instructor's certificate in 1978/79. Tim was elected as a Life Member in May 2000. |
