dogum gunu -- birthday

Wow! I'm sorry abou thow long it's been since I've written. I really have no excuse, all I can say is it won't happen again. A lot has happened, too, so it'll take a while for me to catch you up.

Hmm... where to start. Okay, first of all, I had my birthday four (!) days ago and after having spent the four days since the Izmir trip sitting at home and lounging and watching MTV, it was nice to do something wiht Semra and Madhavi. Karina went back to Izmir that night, so she couldn't come, and Sturat was (and still is) nowhere to be found. (That angers me, btw, that he missed my birthday after talking about doing something so much. That bitch. :) )

Anyway, Semra and Madhavi and I went to Cafe Reci's at Altin Yunus for my birthday dinner. I had fried ice cream smothered in chocolate and with, of course, a candle on top. When I blew it out everyone clapped and I bowed and my hair got in the chocolate. Not quite as embarassing as the Plate Glass Door incident, but still.

it was made more embarassing by the presence of a very cute guy at the table next to us. Semra decided he was, at the most, 17 or 18 (much too young for her) but thought that he'd be perfect for me. I decided, however, that as cute as he was he was probably shorter than I and dismissed him. However, he was really cute and I kept thinking about him.

The next day we all got together at the beach by the Sheraton to swim and just, in general, bask in the sun. WE went in the water but there were so many waves and so we got out again and laid back down.

Then, five minutes later, Semra says, "Oh my god, it's that guy from Reci's!"

"What, the cute one?" I ask.

"Yeah, the one who sat next to us," she says.

It was! We sat watching him and his friends play volleyball (sans net) for a while and then one of them hit it too hard and it rolled right at me. I grabbed it and knocked it back to them with my best serve. So they asked me if I wanted to play.

Well duh! When do I ever not? And why on earth would I turn down the chance to play with a cute guy?

Turns out he was 21, much older than Semra had thought (although I figured that he must have been, since he had some nice stubble going and just didn't act 17) and just slightly taller than me. WE got into some good, broken-English conversation and after going back into the water with me he asked us if we wanted to do something tonight.

We agreed (he didn't seem at all scary) and he took me home. There was no real chemistry between us (although both of us were trying, really) but Madhavi, always observational, noticed something going with him and Semra.

Yup. We went out to Reci's and then to a bar, and Semra flirted heavily the entire time. Madhavi left, I stayed, and watched as the two grew (literally) closer and closer.

That's the second boy this week for Semra. She continues to make me insanely jealous. Grr. :)

So basically after that Semra, Madhavi and I have been going either to the beach or into Cesme for the past four days. But today, I'm only going to check my email to see what em and mom think of my pictures (and forward the pictures to Mr. Beckmann) which I scanned to the computer earlier this week and emailed them two days ago. I'm mainly packing to move to Izmir today -- tomorrow we're going, and we'll get my uniform and register for classes at Amerikan Kollegi and take care of some other stuff (hopefully a bit more effectively this time. :) )

Went to a Rotary Club meeting yesterday, and Yesim still thinks she's my mother. Referred to herself as my 2nd mother (I quickly reminded her that anne is my 2nd mother). Argh! She is NOT MY MOTHER. But I won't do something I'll regret by saying something mean, because she says she'll allow me to miss school to travel.
