| This was the first Pride Parade since the decision of the federal government not to combat an Ontario Supreme Court ruling that made gay marriage legal. The Provincial court found that distinguishing between "heterosexual" and "homosexual" couples for the purpose of marriage to be unconstitutional. Within days PM Jean Chretien announced that his liberal government would not oppose this, moreover the government intends to rewrite the law itself entrenching gay marriage into the Canadian social fabric. |
