The ever increasing intensity of techniques being applied is a silent war against the countyside. Polluted water ways, hedgerows and other natural habitats destroyed, and aborigianl wildlife poisoned by everything-a-cides. In fact the economic and environmental arguments have recently been the main reasons for my personal choice. I guess as I get older I care less about cute furry things, and start worring about the bigger picture. In the same vein is fishing.   ..eat all the fucking fish.. Most people look upon it with a less critical eye. The fish are free up till the point that they are caught, so whats the problem. Well I agree the have a better quality of life, such as life is for a fish, but this is not the only issue. There's also the environmental issue. Give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat all the fucking fish and his grandchildren will have to live on state handouts. Fishing is different from farming, nothing is ever fed back in, fish stocks are not managed nor even monitored effectively, consequently stocks collapse and industries die. The farmer for all his negatives, actually manages his resources, s/he maintains the fertility of the soil, ensures re-planting each seasons, leaves land fallow and so on. Damage to the environment is quickly spoted, so famers are relatively easy to regulate. Fishmen simply take. Effectivly they are strip mining the oceans.
