eve online – some very good ambient electronic music

folk music

- rollerball cue 2
- cradle

am the one
- mad
dash racing – jumper
- nelly furtado
– turn off the light
- poe – haunted
- american mcgee’s
- rasputina – sign of the zodiac
- tweaker – linoleum (paul leary remix)
- tweaker – microsize
boy (meathead’s goddamn remix)
- vast
– free
- weezer – hash pipe
chill
air – moon safari (4)
– a very tranquil bit of music. a little electronic and a lot ethereal.
the art of noise – the ambient collection (4)
– almost completely unobtrusive; nice to sleep to.
jeff buckley
- &>grace (4)
– jeff buckley is now dead,
but his sweet voice lives on through this uniquely interesting album. the music is well
made and probably could be described as gentle alternative, but what makes this
album soar is soulful crooning of mr buckley. he almost has the voice of a little boy, slightly feminine
but not really. he
is famous for the song last goodbye,
but the entire album is delightful.
mazzy star – she hangs brightly
[1990] (4)
– mazzy star’s first album is the start of something
beautiful. very
hazy vocals like divine whispers floating amidst electric guitar that is folksy
and bluesy and subdued and most definitely transcendental.
mazzy star – so tonight that i might see [1993] (4)
– mazzy star’s second album experienced commercial
success with the hit song fade into you. mazzy
star continues the tradition of their first album, blending atmospheric vocals
and guitars with interestingly structured songs and small hints of percussion.
mazzy star – among my swan
[1996] (4)
– the latest album from mazzy star was snubbed a
little by the media because it is more of the same. i
like this album, i would argue that it is the
fuzziest of the three. very subdued and quiet, and the vocals are more hushed than
ever. pretty
much bliss to me.
morcheeba – big calm (4)
– it takes a few spins, but this diverse album is very rewarding.
hope sandoval & the warm
inventions – bavarian fruit bread (4)
– imagine mazzy star subdued to the nth
degree.
télépopmusik – genetic world (4)
– a nice variety of electric tunes with the chill song breathe.
morcheeba – the music that we hear
(moog island) [omni trio mix]
– song from a single i got. its a nice club
style remix.
rock
the accused – martha splatterhead’s maddest stories ever told (4)
– goblin rock from the 80s. the singer sounds like a goblin to me. pretty neat. michael
williams gets the ‘cred for
introducing me to this.
acid bath – when the kite string pops [1994] (4)
– swamp metal is the genre slapped on this.
fronted by a vocalist who seems to sing with
the gothic gentile soul of
acid bath – paegan terrorism
tactics [1996] (4)
– acid bath returns with a more melodic album.
the lyrics are still harsh but sweetly hypnotic
and you will find plenty of heaviness that approaches the death metal style. this touches on more
emotions than most death metal while keeping that raw edge. not every song is
perfect, but this is an excellent album.
butthole surfers – electriclarryland (4)
- the closest genre i/span>< can think of is punk, but electriclarryland is weirder and more experimental. this is an album with
catchy tunes and stream of consciousness lyrics. very creative and
fun and unique and at times very scary. this album is almost completely different than anything i usually listen to but i cant
help liking it. ultimately
its just good.
crowbar – time heals nothing (4)
– this is pure sludge. heavy and slow. one of my friends said crowbar is a good band to take a crap
to.
dj spooky – synthetic fury (4)
- some nice tracks with some bass mixed
faith no more – the real thing [1989] (4)
– faith no more has a sound all their own.
i mean, when you
think about it they dont do anything to
groundbreaking with their music, but their music sounds groundbreaking and
fresh. the
lyrics are super-intelligent and emotionally insightful. the music is hard at
times but never overbearing. all i can say is this album is
just plain good.
faith no more – angel dust [1992] (4)
– one of faith no more's most popular albums, this
one pretty much kicks ass. i think faith no more appeals more
to boys than to girls, probably like tori amos appeals to girls more than boys. maybe??? faith no more's creative energy is pretty amazing.
faith no more – king for a day, fool for a lifetime
[1995] (4)
- faith no more bring more crazy tunes tooo the table, seemingly harmless but
immensely diverse and unique. this is sometimes hard and always innovative. throw in some r&b. another solid and completely original album from faith no
more.
filter – short bus (4)
– a very nice album that really grows on you. hard stuff that may
be a little negative on the surface, but in my opinion it speaks to deeper
feelings. another
hard subdued album, something that i seem to be
attracted to.
fishbone – chim chim’s badass revenge (4)
- a friend of mine introduced me to fishboone.
this is the first (and only) album i bought of theirs. i
wasnt too hot on it back then, but i liked some of the songs; so i
kept it. the
more i listened to it the more i
liked it. im glad i kept it because i can now say there is no album better. the songs are
diverse ranging from funk to ska to rock. the lyrics may seem
a little silly but they are very poetic and perfectly funky. this is an album
that always puts me in a good mood. seriously recommended to funk/ska/rock
fans and to all patient music lovers.
kyuss – welcome to sky valley
[1994] (4)
– a long, strange trip. long and large grooves, tuned down and heavy, probably kyuss’s defining album.
turn your speakers up and blow out the bass,
the sound waves vibrate through your dna. and never shrill at
all.
kyuss – …and the circus leaves
town [1995] (4)
– after the first couple songs this album really begins to level the
universe. this
is heavy metal that is so dense it is never loud. fuzzy, fuzzy music.
melvins – houdini
[1993] (4)
– one of my favorite bands. dense and heavy music, slow like molasses but hardcore and
mellow at the same time. nice album from the melvins here.
melvins – stoner witch [1994]
(4)
– another melvins album, good as gold and heavy too.
melvins – stag [1996] (4)
– this is one of my favorite albums. the melvins make quite a diversity
of music this go round; a lot of weird and unique songs with the melvins trademark density.
pet – ~untitled~ (4)
- the first (and only?) band to sign to &llt;tori amos' record label. the lead singer is a female with powerful vocals. her voice is pretty
much center-stage and remarkable, but the music behind her is very
complimentary and memorable. nice structured songs and interesting lyrics make this an
album to seek out. dont let me mentioning tori
amos scare you away if you dont
like her, pet is unique from tori amos.
tweaker – the attraction to all
things uncertain [2001] (4)
– nice and unique electronic beats with a bit of alternative rock and chill
thrown in.
tweaker – 2 a.m. wakeup call
[2004] (4)
– tweaker’s follow-up album has a number of vocals
and plenty of heaviness but continues the subdued tone of tweaker’s
first cd.
masters of reality – sunrise on the sufferbus (4)
- ants
in the kitchen
- rabbit one
- she
got me (when she got her dress on)
- TUSA
- VHV
soundtracks
american mcgee’s alice – (4)
– from the main creative force behind tweaker (chris vrenna) comes the soundtrack
for what seems to be a very twisted and disturbing rendition of the alice in wonderland tale.
vocal clips from the game kind of narrate as
the listener is taken through some eerily instrumental soundscapes. not as good as
either tweaker album, but worth checking out.
