Page 002 – Average Movies

2004

alien VS predator – could have been much better, but it was still pretty cool if you forget all the cheesy dialogue and the dumbed down plot.  almost good.

anchorman – ridiculous doesn’t begin to describe it.

broken lizard's club dread – raunchy humor that can be funny at times and repulsive at others.

dodgeball: a true underdog story – sometimes funny, always ridiculous.

fahrenheit 9/11 – ridicules george w bush and makes some interesting points, but it feels too rushed.

secret window – disappointing, nothing very challenging.

sky captain and the world of tomorrow – uh, i was bored.  it captured the feel of old timey movies pretty well and it looked pretty good, but beyond the novelty it was pretty unexciting.

starsky & hutch – pretty funny film.

torque – pretty dumb, but the action is decent.

van helsing - a fairly uninspired story about a character who isnt afraid of vampires.  why?  we dont know.  the computer graphics werent exceptional, but they werent bad either.  van helsing featured a full cast of monsters, but if you are looking for something with an ounce of substance this really isnt the movie for you.  this might pass as mindless fun, at best.

2003

agent cody banks – pretty good kid movie.

anger management – some parts are funny.

bad boys II – action packed popcorn movie with some humor mixed in.

bruce almighty – funny bits, but sappy overall.

bubba ho-tep – unique, but lacking, geriatric horror.

finding nemo – not too bad; something for the children.

the gospel of john – it rarely moved me.  it didn’t feel spiritual, it felt historical.

how to lose a guy in 10 days – kinda sweet, but too often corny.

identity – interesting concept.  could have been so much better.  good acting though.

the italian job – bland criminal caper revenge film.

the last samurai – overbearing epic film with a nice touch of japanese culture.

love actually – well-intentioned collection of love stories, but it lacks punch.

master & commander: far side of the world – a detailed look at life on the sea in the time of napolean.  i was bored.

matchstick men – almost in the good category, it just seemed something was missing.

the missing – native american motif; generic in every other way.

mona lisa smile – good performances in generic chick flick.

out of time – pretty average set-up story.

paycheck – intriguing premise and a decent delivery.

the recruit – run of the mill espionage story.

s.w.a.t. – subtle parody of tv show and action films, but it may be too subtle.

secondhand lions – slightly interesting coming of age story, not made too well.

something's gotta give – pretty cute love story between old people.

spun – depressing, ugly look at drugs.

terminator 3: rise of the machines – fast paced action with a terrible lead.

timeline – teeny-bopper time travel.

under the tuscan sun – flawed, but a nice and warm romance.

underworld – mediocre gothic action film.

what a girl wants – cutesy bubble-gum flick.

2002

chicago – ugly truth of show business.

ghost ship – pointless, but not too bad.

half past dead – not the smartest, but nice visuals and good action.

murder by numbers – a bit unbelievable but pretty solidly made.

two weeks notice – kinda cute i guess.

2001

lagaan: once upon a time in india – typical sports feel-good movie with plenty of singing, as is the indian tradition.

the shipping news – pretty nice story about a man facing his demons.

2000

getter robo: armageddon vol 1 - resurrection – potentially good giant robot anime but aesthetically limited.

1999

the haunting – creepy special effects with a crappy story.

1998

kimera – interesting story and character designs with homosexual tendencies and a blah ending.

1997

a chinese ghost story – quirky humor, some cool ghosts.

armitage III poly matrix – pretty bland.  the best thing about it is the relationship between the two main characters.

neon genesis evangelion: death & rebirth – the alternate ending is nice, but the summation of the series seems like overkill.

titanic – loads of conventions define this hollywood juggernaut.

1986

transformers: the movie – pretty fun movie that captures the spirit of the 80s.
