3/28/2003
Been a whole 10 days since I updated my site... out enjoying my spring break, sorry to everyone checking out my site, well not totally mine now... i have relinked my game review site for the 2003 season to one that sandy is maintaining. So far she has reviews and players records up until the hayward game so check that out. So, my only prediction of the season came up totally wrong against Mt. Eden, expected of more from the team, but I should have known that Linda and Winnie would put up a hell of a fight, as they were doing last season sitting in that nice number two spot. Other news with the team since my last entry is that SL finally won their first game, this was bound to happen of course, it just depended on how far into the season the hayward game was. They've come up close in the Arroyo game so hopefully we get that one back at home in the second half of the season. A game not listed, I probably should get that up... is the annual exibition game against Skyline High of Oakland. With a all girls league, our varsity girls seem to have been little compitition to them from the only game I have been able to show up to.
Other news is many more ex-players are showing up to the games and that is nice to see. Franco has been helping out, though doesn't seem that much better, seems a little taller... Nepitism is keeping the sport alive... John is at some of the practices and with his staff title at the school allows for some extra options when Madson can't be there that I hope will help the team out. Tuan from the team last year was seen at the Hayward game I think, though may not seem like a big deal, it is good to see the support for the team in the years following high school.
Since I'm making a news entry or whatever this is called, I would like to make another prediction, we just lost to CV and it would have been nice to have the game results there to help in my prediction, but begger can't be choosers, or lazy people shouldn't be asking for too much... but since I know we lost against CV we'll probably lose against Moreau. Score 5 - 10, winners Cindy, whoever is playing in the boy's singles number 3 spot, a mixed doubles team, and two more games from a girls category... The guys will have a hard fight, but hopefully they will put up a good fight and maybe surprise me, but i doubt it. Ok, well, I 'm done, I'll be at todays practice, hope it's a long one or I get a chance to play/beat Franco. Oh, yeah, again thank you Sandy for keeping my page interesting.

So, today is the big game against Mt. Eden... The only game we won against them last year in the first meeting, never got the result's of the second meeting, though our school lost, was Johnny winning the number two spot in boys singles. This will be difficult to do again since he is holding the number one spot this year and coming off a big lost against Tennyson, I predict he will not win this one. Since I'm predicting I'll say the score will be 2 - 13 Mt. Eden... The two wins will come from Ken and Marlon and maybe a mixed doubles team. In the number two spot of boys singles I don't think Albert can do what Johnny did due to lack of experience, but maybe in the second meeting. Hopefully, though we lose most of the matches we make the loses a lot closer then the ones lost against Tennyson. And about those scores. Sandy said their all wrong for some reason so that may postpone when I put those up. I have posted Sandy's game summary though, just ignore my "View individual results." link for now, I'll update that hopefully soon. Well, that's it for today, good luck Pirates on the difficult game today.

3/15/2003
Ok, so there was no practice at SL today... it would have helped if i found out before arriving there... oh, well. So, what has happened since my last update? Well SL has played their first game against Tennyson and it could have turned out better for some of the players, SL lost 6 - 9. From the scores of the games provided by Vanessa (though I'm not sure who you are, sorry, thank you for the info) it seems Tennyson has a very strong singles team this year. Since I have the scores I will post them up whenever I get to them. The game next week against Arroyo is said to be away, there's was question about it before, I'll try to update that on my games page also. The next game is against Mt. Eden and that will be a difficult match up, they came in third in NCS last year, and undefeated in HAAL the last two or three years. So the best I think we can hope for here is winning a game or two. Franco signed my guestbook asking if there are saturday practices and my response is that there were up until today, not sure if they are suppose to have regular saturday practices but hopefully they do and I'll try to keep you updated on that. It's nice to hear from you again and to see that this site is working out as it was ment to, to keep the former and some of the current player updated on the badminton world in San Leandro. My last bit of news is that there is an open gym for badminton ran by a friend all the way in Campbell (past San Jose)... it's from 2pm - 5pm on sunday so if your interested just email me.

I'm going to tuesday practice this week so I hope to be able to prepare the varsity teams for the game coming up in a couple of days. I heard that there have been challenge games and I hope to get the rankings tomorrow or have somebody email them to me. I forgot to mention in my other news post that I got to play a real game and actually lost, so I have to give credit to my brother Michael and Allen for beating me and Ken one set... We didn't lose the match but still, that's an achievement. The team is looking better this year (I know what your thinking, it really can't look that worst) since only a few players graduated from last years team and the large number of new powerful and egar players the team is better. I've been having problems with the guestbook, but I changed the service and it should work better now. Thank you for putting up with these changes, but then again what else can you do, I don't see any other web sites out there dedicated to the sl badminton players (chris... hint... hint...).
-Randall
3/9/2003
Ok, i've finished the update to the page and finally ported everything from homestead over to geocities. I know the site looks really plain now and if you don't like it join another team. I might be adding new stuff and is open to any input any of you have but there's no garentees that I will be any less lazy later then I an now.
-Randall
3/7/2003
So, if you haven't noticed I finally updated my page... I converted the main page from homestead (now a paid site) to geocities (still a free site) as I have done with other pages last season... so it may kind of look plain now but I hope to add more later. I wasn't sure if I was going to be working on the page this season, but with several people asking me about if i was updating the site gave me reason to begin it for this season like i did last season. I ended my work on the page last season before the season ended, and i apologize to the people who actually check up on my site. But then the sl badminton team didn't give me much to write about producing a very pitiful season finishing only 2 and 10, beating only hayward put us second to last. But that matters very little in the format of badminton, the only place that matters is first to get the title as HAAL champs... what really matters though is the individual accomplishments of our players in the playoffs and if they can make NCS, but then we came up short in this category also with nobody from the team ranking in the top five spots of any of the categories. The closest we came was Tiffany (doubles player in the regular season) finishing sixth in girls singles which is a pretty tough category to do well in. That mainly sums up what happened with the rest of the season, or at least what I can remember, or want to remember from it.
The new season is starting next week and practices already have been underway. It appears that the team has Madson as the coach again and a new assistant coach, a lady that suppose to have been the assistant coach for CV, but i'm still wondering about that. From my first impression and comments from members of the team, she doesn't really seem suited for the level or attitude of our players (me putting it as politely as possible). The turnout out for the team has brought in a lot of new people with the team at over 75 people i think. There seems to be a large group of girls in the girls singles category which willl seem to raise the level of play here which is really good. Some of these girls should be going to girls doubles though to balance out the team a little. So the layout of the team seems to already have been set with most of last years ranking remaining. Mixed doubles: Joe/Sandy; Boys doubles: Allen/Mike, Ken/Marlon; Girls doubles: Shirley/Sophia; Boys singles: Johnny, Albert; Girls singles: Tiffany, Cindy. The only new face in this group is Albert, but then he isn't really a new face since he's been messing around at practices previous seasons. Hopefully there's new talent hiding in the shadows that I haven't noticed and proves me wrong in these listing, only time can tell. Though kind of early to tell i believe that this years team is looking better then last years and hopefully the results at the end of the season proves this.
The first game for the team is on thursday against tennyson since the tuesday match was set for san lorenzo which doesn't have a team again this year. Usually i say that the matches against tennyson are the diciding factors of how good the team will be this season, but since this will be the first game it may just be a fluke if we win or lose, so i wouldn't put too much riding on this game unless it's a blow out one way or another. With a win here almost gaurentees a better season then last season but that still doesn't say much, but still, good luck pirates!

2002 Season
4/2/2002
Sorry I've haven't been able to update the webpage recently, too much time on my hands with spring break last week... (at least I showed up to the practices and helped there...) I'll try to get some more reviews going but it's just so tiring making up reviews for games that i didn't see. Well, hopefully I get the stuff up this week, or Friday at the latest. So all of you should know by now, or if you haven't been in the loop, there's no practices during spring break at SL. If your looking for a place to play, try to find out if the other high schools are having practice... you guys might be able to squeeze in, since practices should be more leanent during the break. So, since I haven't been able to write reviews for the games, the team is now 1 - 6, with the last loss to tennyson. With that lost they have just about clinched the second worst record in the league, only being able to beat the worst team, hayward... good job Pirates! The only way to redeem themselves is to get two wins against teams they lost to in the first half of the season, or just beat one of the badminton power houses (moreau or mt. eden).
-Randall
3/17/2002
I'm not sure of how well it's working but I've tried to post up the individual results to the games, since Joe was helpful enough to send me the results to all the games so far. I'm not sure of when I would be able to put up the game reviews for the Mt. Eden and Hayward game, hopefully soon. The Castro Valley game is coming up and it shouldn't be as difficult as the one earlier this week, so we should have a better showing then the Mt. Eden game against both Castro Valley and Moreau, at least 3 games. We had 4 games both times against Castro Valley last season, so I'm expecting more then that this season, if not the win then 6 games is my prediction, 2 boys singles, 2 boys doubles, 1 from girls singles, and 1 from girls doubles. Still don't see a real win in the mixed doubles; hopefully they will prove me wrong. A CV player signed my guestbook with some enlightening remarks about the team but not as creative as mine have been but what do you expect from a member of a team that once was at least kind of good but now only sent 3 people to NCS last season, a girls single and a mixed doubles team I know that's better then how we did, but were we ever that good. They're falling fast and if we don't step ahead of them another crappy team will, like Tennyson. And they probably are jealous that we have a better website... Oh, well, on to some other news. Cat has written a pretty large article for the San Leandro Times on the school and the badminton team, and if you've read the site before you should have heard this a long time ago when I mentioned it. It's pretty interesting though my name isn't mention once, nor the website, what's up with that. Shirley got a whole paragraph though she isn't on the team this year and I show up like twice a week to help out the team and nothing. There is also one part of the article that made it sound like Madson appreciates the help since he's taking college classes and doesn't have time, though I think it means Franco is taking college classes and doesn't have time to be assistant coach, something like that should have been caught when writing for a widely distributed newspaper, though free. Well, I'll try to put the article on my site sometime so you all can critique it as well.
-Randall
3/9/2002
CHRIS, CAN YOU READ THIS. For you guys that don't read the news on my page reguularly, the font got a little larger so chris could read it on his humongus monitor... same resolution as mine... but it might be because i don't really read what i write... Now it looks like i'm actually writing something important because it's taking so much room... oh well. I was able to post up the new game reviews, amazingly again without making it to a single game. The game review page has been up dated but i don't know if you guys can really tell the difference. So next week will be another ass whooping week, first by Mt. Eden, and then we get our first win against Hayward who forfeited like 5 games against arroyo before arroyo came and slaughtered us. Come on pirates, lets see at least one game against Mt. Eden, we didn't get one all of last season against them.
-Randall
3/5/2002
Ok, I visited the practice again yesterday and got
to see what Allen and my brother are made of... I didn't see much badminton
on their part, just rallying and not really badminton. The seedings were
decided and it seems like they have a better chance against Tennyson later
today then I thought. The teams I had pegged as #1 are playing #2 so they
have a better chance of winning now, though this really looks like stacking,
but then our teams aren't that good anyway and the difference is indistinguishable.
So with the current seeding I think the team will be able to win at least
5 matches, I know this is just about the same as my previous prediction,
but there were a lot of maybe's, now I say the team can win 5 at least.
This seems to be a very safe prediction... ok, I say the team wins 9 - 6,
the first time to beat Tennyson in their first meeting in a long time. Well,
again, good luck Pirates and hopefully the other team is more inexperienced
then you guys.
-Randall
3/4/2002
I've been to two practices so far and still did not
get much of a feel for the team. The gym has changed since the last time
I was there, they had the floors done..., and the badminton lines mysteriously
disappeared... The geinuses that came up with the colors for the lines somehow
came up with a wood color, probably so it wouldn't clash with the wood floors
or something. Both practices I went to, Simon was misteriously missing but
I hear he has been going to the other practices. He and Andy might be the
best chances for some wins at this point into the season, which is very,
very early. At the Friday practice there seemed to be very few challenges,
since Madson wasn't there, and the players seemed to just want to have fun,
even though games start in on Tuesday. Hopefully the players know the rules
by now. My brother and Allen seem to have very little competition since
the team somehow is missing a lot of experience in the doubles areas (other
then mixed.) It seems like their going to be the #1 boys' doubles team easily
since Ken got his cousin as a new partner. The new assistant coach seems
to know badminton, though I haven't talked to him or actually seen him on
a court. Since the first game is already coming up, I guess I'm obligated
to a prediction on the outcome... I say we get a win by each of the boy's
singles (this seems to be our strongest area thus far), and maybe two wins
in the mix doubles, and one more win in the boys doubles. If SL somehow
beats Tennyson then they probably have more first year varsities then we
have. This will be a good warm up to playing Arroyo on Thursday, I'm thinking
we have a good chance against them, sweeping the boy's singles and maybe
getting at least one win in the boy's doubles hopefully. This predictions
would be a lot easier if we had a stronger girls part of the team, or if
I've even seen what the other teams looked like this year, though I have
a good idea what the Arroyo team looks like. Well, good luck to the team,
they can't do worst then last year...
-Randall
2/24/2002
So the day has come for the first practice of this season,
and it starts at seven freaking thirty at night. I guess that's better then
the 6:30 am practices other schools have been having, but then again they
got to start a week early. I'll most likely will be at the practice tomorrow,
but not sure how much I will get to help. This will be my first look at
the team and I hope it will be a good impression, though I dought it. So
I've heard that Shirley isn't going to play this year, at least the beginning
of the season, which would hurt the team which was already lacking in experience.
Hopefully the new freshmen will pick up the slack. So my brother will be
on the team this year and so will Joyce's brother, not sure how much they
will help out this year, but if team is still there for the next few years,
I guess they could be some solid players later on. I heard they would be
partners this year, I guess that would help fill the gap that would be left
open from Jonny playing singles this year, which I believe is a good decision
since he has a lot of reach to cover. Since the season is really starting
I'm thinking more and more people are visiting the page, I appologize for
all the ads and stuff on the page now, but I'm working on it. Cat is working
with the San Leandro Times and said he is working on an article on the badminton
team, so keep your eyes out for it, and hopefully this exposes more people
to the sport. So I hope to see all you guys at practice tomorrow (no idea
if Franco will be there), and that I could help out as much as possible.
-Randall
2/7/2002
The first practice has been set, if you want to call
it that, for Monday the 11th, but I heard it has already been rescheduled
for Tuesday the 13th at 3:20 in front of the girls locker room. I also heard
it is only a 45 minute practice so don't get your hopes up just yet. This
short practice may be good for you guys that haven't played since the summer
or last season. I could imagine the pain you guys would be in the day after
the first practices start. So for you guys wondering, according to my schedule
this year at SJSU, the earliest I can make it back to SL is like 4:30 on Mondays
and Wednesdays, and I should be back in SL early enough for the whole Friday
practices. There's no way I could make it back on Tuesdays and Thursdays
so I won't be able to catch practices and games on that day.
-Randall
1/31/2002
So the season finally is starting and the schedule is
out. I already posted the schedule under the games section. I still have
to update the team page, but I'll just wait until the season starts. The
info from the meeting is that Madson is still the coach, the new assistant
coach is a teacher named Stipula. Practice begins the last week of February,
the time of the practice is dependent on the basketball practices, I heard
there would be late practices if there is still basketball. So if you didn't
get the schedule of the games, check it out on my site, the first six games
are at home... This maybe good or bad, depending how you look at it. I think
it's bad because the team is usually better in the second half of the season
and home court advantage would better help out then, but by starting at home,
this should settle the nerves of the players and allow them to get comfortable
with the new season, maybe too comfortable.
-Randall
1/27/2002
Hey, I'm back again, here I guess for another season
(if there is one...). So according to Lan the first badminton is meeting
on the 29th. For the people wondering about Franco, it looks very unlikely
that he will be assistant coach this year but he said he would be dropping
by the practices to help out, as will I, so it shouldn't be that different
from last year. So my prediction for the team this year, even before seeing
the team is that they will be doing better then last year. Arroyo lost the
top two of boys' doubles team and top two boys' singles so they should be
less of a challenge. The top team in HAAL will most likely be Mt. Eden again
since like I said before they have a really deep team and they weren't even
touched by the other schools in the league last season. So another season
is about to begin and I would like to wish the pirates the best of luck.
-Randall
8/15/2001
Ok, as you can see the last entry was over a month ago,
and I really have no excuses... The summer badminton class is over now
at Chabot but the Fall class is starting and they have a Saturday class...
Though they have a new teacher for this class, it will be a good oppertunity
for some of you high schoolers to get some more experience and sharpen your
skills. Since they have a new teacher I advise whoever is interested in the
class to register and get all the forms stuff out of the way because I have
no idea of how strict the teacher will be. I'm still working on the pictures
page and still can't figure out why the pictures turn out so poorly but will
be adding the links to the pics and advise downloading them and viewing them
on your computer. I'm going to update the team page and put up the winners
of the badminton awards. Looking over the new layout for the site I've noticed
it looks realy boring and plain, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about
it but I'm just letting you guys know I see how boring it is... Well, I'm
not sure how long it will take for me to get the changes done to the page,
but I am working on it.

2001 Season
|
6/25/2001
Hey, the badminton season has been over with for awile
but I'm still making entries... Today the badminton class at Chabot started
and I was happy to see several of the players enrolling in to the class
and hopefully, if there is a team next year, we will have a much better showing.
In the class is also several Arroyo people, though some of them graduated,
so if there is a team next year we will still have our work cut out for us.
I know I still haven't gotten the pictures up and I'll find some time to do
it... Ok, I don't know how the pics look on your computer but, though it
looked alright before it looks kind of degraded now... so I'll just put links
under the page to download the pictures to see them more clearly off the
internet...
-Randall
6/15/2001
The site is undergoing a slight change because homestead
(the site hosting service I'm using) has changed their policy and is only
allowing 3 pages per account for free to encourage people to get a paid
subscription with their company... So to advoid having to pay, like I would
actually pay for this, I am converting most of the pages on this site to
html, which is different from what I did before of just using homestead to
edit the page. The new pages can be identified with the blue background since
there were several complaints on how white my page was... I know the background
is still plain and if i ever get a cool picture then i'll put it back there...
but I like it plain... Well, I've gotten more pictures up and since I did
that page in html I think the pics came out much better this time. Lan was
able to get the newer pictures much sharper so the second batch came out
better, at least on most peoples computers... I was going to list the names
of the people for the team photo... or at least was asked to but due to request
of people not having their names listed, I guess they didn't want to be affiliated
with the team or something, who can blame them since the team was only tied
for second worst team...
-Randall
6/7/2001
The picnic has gone and went and I didn't really see
many people from the team there. So as a recap for the people that didn't
go the picnic mainly consisted of eatting, catching flying projectiles,
and just hanging out... I didn't see Rocky there so I wasn't able to get
on his case about the player records... If you haven't noticed I got a pictures
page up and it just consist of some of the players posing for the pictures,
at the bottom of the page is the team picture. For some reason the pictures
doesn't look as good when I check it online so maybe I'll find some way to
make them look better... I thinking of using a different picture format that
is larger. Well this may be my last entry before the end of the school year
for you high schoolers so good luck on your finals and have a good summer.
I wasn't sure if I should announce this but Franco is going to Hong Kong for
vacation soon so I wanted to wish him a good trip and tell whoever wants to
contact him that they should do it soon because he'll be gone for over a
month.
-Randall
5/27/2001
So as requested by Franco here is an
link to a map
of where the picnic will be held... or at least where the parking lot is
and near where the picnic area will be. For the site I took off the experation
on the polls since the winners were already chosen, so you can speak out who
you think should have won...
-Randall
5/25/2001
Hey guys:
Due to a lot of people cannot make it on the 28th, is
either they are out of town or they already have plan. So, I'm suggesting
that let's have the picnic on Saturday, June 2nd. Please let me know ASAP
if you can make it and what are you going to bring? It's going to be held
at the same place, same time...(Chabot Lake, from 10am to 3pm) I'm going
to post the direction on the team web-site later tonight. Spread the words
too! thanks
-Coach Franco Lau
Ok, so in a last minute change the date for the pinic
seems to be June 2nd now... It's good to see all the people getting emails
about the picnic and hopefully the word of cancellation of the Memorial Day
picnic... Hopefully I can get some pics page up soon and add new section
since Lan was able to send me some pics, so check back soon for a pics sction.
-Randall
5/23/2001
We are going to have a team picnic on Monday, May 28th
(Memorial Day) (New Date: June 2nd). From 10am to 3pm at chabot lake(near
Castro Valley), it's going to be a port-luck style party/picnic. It's going
to be free as long as everyone bring something to the picnic...
Here is what I have in mine.
Senior & Sophomores: Main Dishes
Juniors & Freshmen: Dessert, drinks, plates... etc.
Please e-mail me at [email protected] to tell me
what are you going to bring, because I need to know who's coming and who bring
what.
And please e-mail me by Friday, May 25th.
-Coach Franco Lau
I wonder what other way is Franco getting the word
out about the picnic... Well, at least there will be a picnic and he actually
emailed me the information... I suggest people make sure to bring other
stuff since I don't thnk Franco is suppling the entertainment and sun screen...
Well, I hope a lot of people show up for the picnic and not just the people
who actually reads my site so get the word out that there's free food at
chabot on the 28th... well there's free food if you bring stuff to the pot
luck... It kinda sucks that the team didn't have a candy drive or anything
to cover the picnic but I guess this will do... I'm still waiting for certain
things from players for my site and I hope I see them at the picnic to see
what's up on that, i know I sound like I'm getting impatient and these people
have lives but I'm out of school and all the season finales are almost over
so I really don't have anything to do after this week...
-Randall
5/18/2001
OK, so badminton is over and the end of the school year
is coming up for you high schoolers (I get out on May 23...). I don't really
know anyone who went to NCS but I have been looking for stuff about it online
and should get some kind of review up when these sites post the results.
I'm still waiting for the player records from Rocky so if anyone reading
this site sees him could you ask him about them. I got rid of the extra
homestead ad on the menu frame (suggested by Lan, though I didn't find it
that bothering) but at the cost of the bouncing text... if anyone wants to
make a logo I have the perfect place for it. Lan also kindly offered to scan
and send me a team photo so hopefully I will be able to get that up when
I get it. Well, since I'm using the SL library computer my times almost up...
so I'm cutting this entry short. I'll add more later.
-Randall
5/8/2001
So San Leandro badminton practice ends a week earlier
this year since nobody made it to NCS. I don't think this has ever happened
and hopefully doesn't happen again. Next season will be a better year with
a lot of people returning and since there wasn't anybody to make it to NCS
then we can't really say we're losing anybody good. I posted up what I saw
and heard about the playoffs, not much about our team since they left early.
I'm probably not going to have a review of NCS since it conflicts with my
badminton playing time. If Franco goes I'll ask him for a review. Rocky generous
enough to offer to figure out the players stats, so if he ever gets that to
me I'll post it up. Well, this is the end of the season and the team did pitifully...
I hope next year would be much better and I get to catch more games.
-Randall
4/30/2001
Challenges start today to see who gets to go to the
playoffs, but with how flexible the team is, it most likely won't be the last
day, though it should, so the players have a chance to get some good practice
in and some focused attention. I won't be able to make it to practice today
but hopefully Franco will do his best and the little incident on Sunday (which
i will kindly not go into or speak of anymore) will not affect him... I
haven't been keeping up my news section but I was able to put up the finish
up the review for the regular season and I also put up some polls to see what
you guys think should be MVP, most improved, and most inspirational. My
site seems to be drawing more people and hopefully these visitors will remember
my site for next season no matter if their on the team or not. I thought
I put this on the page already... but to help people better remember the
address to my site I was able to get a couple of new redirects that should
help people remember how to get to my site (
http://www.kickme.to/slbadminton
and http://www.kickass.at/slbadminton
). I would also like to take this chance to thank Joe for giving me a list
of the players who won in the final game in the season

So with spring break the team gets to miss out on practice
for the whole week. This should not matter much since the only match left
is against Tennyson and though we lost in the first meeting I think we can
beat them easily the second time. People have actually offered to help me
with the site and my guestbook is finally being signed... I'm really not sure
what help people can give, all I can suggest is giving me their reviews on
the games... maybe if they have picture they want me to put up to scan them
and send them to me. The end of the season is coming up and I don't think
I'm going to do anything major to the site this far into the season so maybe
I'll need help next year... Since more people are visiting my site I was
thinking of putting up a message board like the one I came across on the
CV badminton site, but if nobody is going to post messages then this will
just be pointless, so if your interested in a message board
email me
. I updated the reviews for the games last week so check them out.

Man, I finally updated the page, it's been a while.
Maybe the reason is that I'm so disappointed in the team this year. The ranking
just about have been set and we're pretty low. I said last year was a rebuilding
year but this year the team is doing alot worst, so what does it make this
year... It makes it a crappy one!!! Someone finally signed my guestbook
so somebody is reading my page and cares enough to give me input, though
it was on the older page... So from the entry I updated the player rankings
on the team and I changed my old page to put it even more out of comission.
I have all the reviews up on this page to this point in time. SL played Skyline
on Friday and they lost again... Franco is already looking to the Playoffs
since he knows the team will not be doing well this year as a whole. I've
been going to practices and games quite often and are learning the people's
names and all (maybe that's why I haven't been keeping up with the site).
Working on this page has gotten kinda boring because there seems not to be
anything really interesting happening... maybe I should add some new features
to this page, if anyone has any suggestions or want to do anything themselves
you can just sign my guestbook or
email me
.

No game against San Lorenzo today because they couldn't
come up with enough players or couldn't afford it or something. There's
no pratice until Monday of next week and I think the players are actually
going to get the whole gym. Monday is also picture day for the team so whoever
is on the team don't forget to wear you badminton shirt... I wonder if I should
get into it... I finally got Franco to send me the roster but it is only
a partial list but better then what I have. I also put up my review for the
Moreau game but I don't think I'm done with it since I haven't even seen
the indivisual player scores I can't say much. So I'll tell you when I complete
the review. This coming up week is spring break for SJSU and Berkley so good
thing we have the whole gym... I wonder if I can get there everyday of the
week?

So another week of games and SL got their first win
which just about came automatically since it was against Hayward... The team
had to play back to back games this week since a game was moved from Thurday
to Wensday. They did not do as well their second game this week against
Castro Valley which I was able to attend. The gym has been cut in half for
the play so the team has been practicing on only three court and it will
be this way next week also. Today the team lost the whole gym and are just
going to do conditioning outside. So this is a message to Cat and anyone
else thinking of going to get to play today. So if nobody told you guys I
hope you read this note this time... I finally got to move the site and hopefully
to it's final spot, I won't really update my other sites so everyone should
update their bookmarks to
http://www.slbadminton.homestead.com/
. The reviews of the games this week should come soon, I might put them
up later today. I've gotten very little input on my site and nobody want
to put up their own reviews, so hopefully there are people out there reading
my site... SIGN THE GUESSBOOK or something.

I finally got up my game summaries up for the first
two games and updated the timer to count down before the next game. With the
first two games came the first twolosts which cannot be good for the team
moral, hopefully the coming up Hayward game gets the team their first win
and the team into good spirits. I don't think I will be going to this game
since it's an away game unless I get a ride so I won't be able to go into
detail how bad their team is, oh well. So good luck to the team in earning
their first win of the season.

So the first game is over with and man was I wrong...
The only thing that I called correctly was the girls doubles and really
lost the boys doubles. There are alot of things I can be putting on the site
but with lack of time it will just take time for me to update the site, hopefully
I can have the Players standings up by Saturday and the game reviews up sometime
also. Today is the game against Mt. Eden, I wonder if SL is going to lose
more badly... I've here they >were able to be Newark Memorial in a preseason
match, that was one of the top schools at NCS, hopefully they got weaker this
year or something. Well at least we know Dan graduated there's some good
news... The girls doubles might have some challenging match ups if the girls
that practice at Chabot are on the team... Since today's game is an away
game only 30 players got to go to the game with the tennis coach but the
rest of the team was offered to have their own practice at SL which is pretty
cool. Well good luck to team today.

There seems to be a lot of stuff happening as the first
game approaches. The first game seems to have been moved again, back to
a home game which is hella confusing... The team lost a couple of the top
ranked boys due to not making the grades which and by my count there seems
to be only currently 11 boys that are eligible (they need a minimum of 12
to cover all positions meaning a forfeiture of a game). Arroyo is probably
going to win all of the boys' singles and most of the boys' doubles games
so we need a strong showing by the girls... The only way I see SL winning
is if all our girls singles, 2 girls doubles, a mixed doubles, and 2 of the
boys teams win. The girls doubles teams seem to be shaping up and can do
pretty well this year... The team may suffer because of a lack of selection
of boys... So challenges are on Monday at 3:15PM and the first games is against
Arroyo at home on Tuesday... Can this game be the deciding factor on how
the team does this year? Maybe, if the team some how pulls out a W, but I
find it unlikely at the moment... I will be at practice tomorrow and see
if I can help the odds a little but the start of the season already game
behind will cost the team dearly in this crucial match up...
-Randall
2/27/2001
So has practice actually offically start... Not really,
there suppositly isn't any practice today because of a basketball game,
but the team does look like it has it together somewhat. Most of the people
know what they are playing and it seems we have filled all the positions.
I went to Monday's practice at 7-9PM and surprisingly there was alot of people
who showed up. Chris and I got to go over the rules for doubles play which
is kinda late since the team has a week until they start the season against
Arroyo. Due to lack of courts the team doesn't seem to be getting enough practice...
This has always been the problem with the small SL gym, I wonder if Franco
can find a way to maximize the space of the gym. The times for practice for
the rest of the week is still unknow as of this time, hopefully I will be
able to post them up...
-Randall
2/22/2001
I finally was able to see the team in action... well
kinda, I got to see it do line sprints... There's no practice on Friday,
so Cat, don't go (well, your not going to read this... so I hope someone
tells you)... There still isn't enough room in the gym to accomadate everyone.
I just found out today that the badminton schedule has been changed so the
team doesn't have a home game for the first half of the season which is pretty
cool because we usually get better by the second half of the season so by
then we will have home court advantage (meaning we are use to the slippery
floors and other schools aren't). Next week practice is suppose to be from
7PM-9PM which sucks for some and good for others (that don't have a life,
like us veterans).
-Randall
2/21/2001
So the first day of practice was canceled... what else
is new... The gym was given up to a basketball playoff game so practice
was cut to just Franco introducing himself... There were the usual number
of people there with about 10 -15 freshmen. There were alot of familar faces
there and it can be a good year for the team, but that will take some work.
It seems that we have a pretty young team (or it can be because I'm hella
old... 21 now but who's counting). I'm thinking about adding a page with frames
and putting the news were it can actually be found but it'll take some work
so maybe later. I'll be at practice on Friday, if there is, and hopefully
I can get a better impression on how the team actually plays.
-Randall
2/18/2001
So like Arroyo and probably most of the other high schools,
pratice starts the day after Presidents Day. I would think Franco would have
everyone meet in or in front of the gym (or maybe in that one room across
from the girls locker room) at 4:15PM and practice will last till 6:00PM.
I'm not sure what Franco will be doing the first day of practice but I'll
be there with my racket just in case the nets get set up. If your reading
this then bring your racket also, or if your really die hard you would already
have your racket in your car, so I have someone to play with.

2/12/2001
Practice for the 2000-2001 is starting next week on
Tuesday the 20th at 3:30PM (most likely). It's the first practice and it will
be the first look at the team for the new season. Hopefully there is a good
showing and some new talent appears. But even before there is a team I would
like to perdict that the girls of the team will be much better then the
guys. From my perspective the guys seem uncoordinated, relying on just running
and hitting the birdie, if they can make contact. I cannot name one guy that
can contact and move well. I know this sounds harsh but with practice there
may be some improvement, hopefully. There seems to be more talent on the
girls side of the team again this year since they do not rely on power as
their first weapon. With longer rallies, they need to use placement and outsmart
their opponents. I should be able to make it the first day... convenently
about an hour late so I miss the streches...

If you haven't noticed I have started on updating the
badminton page for the new season. I have the new schedule and moved the
game summaries/commentaries to it's own page. I haven't been keeping up with
the page and I apologize, I never got to rewrite the summaries on the last
half of the season but I probably made up most of the stuff, you can make
up your own summaries just by looking at the scores, that would probably
be as good as my reviews... Well this is a new season, lets hope we have
a better team this year so my reviews can be more positive. Good luck Pirates!

5/2/2000
Man, I somehow lost like half of the game commentaries...
You may have noticed that you could not get to the page... Well. now I only
have up until the first Arroyo game. I might try to replace the games but
that would take time... It might be awhile cuz of finals, but I'll try, or
try to get someone else to get their insights. Hey maybe you can send in something
about my site.
-Randall
4/6/2000
I've gotten a few of complaints on the things I'm writing
about the team (and one complement, thanks Mao) but I don't think anyone
knows how much trouble this is to provide a record of how bad, I mean how
the team is doing... I'll try to lighten up on the creative advice but for
those who criticize my input should give me there's, how many times must
I ask for other people's game summeries... Just send them to
[email protected]
.
