Frequently Asked Questions Am I Eligible? Q. I think I am eligible for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, but am not sure. A. Visit the National Society DAR which will provide all the requirements for membership as well as additional services other than the usual and assumed military service. How can I get another member's application papers? Q. My Mother, (Aunt, Grandmother) was a member of the DAR. How can I get hold of a copy of her application papers? A. Many local genealogy libraries, Latter-Day-Saints Family History Centers, or large city libraries (such as the Central Library in Los Angeles) have a collection of the "DAR Lineage Books". After using the Lineage Index and finding her in the correct volume, you will find your relative's National Number and can easily write and request a copy of her application. Another source for her National Number would be the engraving on the back of your relative's DAR Insignia Pin. Someone in your family may still have her pins. Q. Okay, now I have the National Number, what do I do? Please contact the NSDAR for the latest information and ordering procedures. Q. How can I get copies of her application papers if I can't find her National Number? Please contact the NSDAR for the latest information and ordering procedures. Can someone help me get documentation for membership? Q. I'm not sure how to get what I need for membership is there someone who can help? A. Contact your local DAR group and let them know you are interested in joining them. They will let you know when they next meet. Someone there can help guide you through the process. You can also visit the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution website for information regarding their Library Search Service. |
