Osiyo. Rancho Conquista may be a Spanish name translated to Ranch of Conquest, but a Cherokee Maiden runs it. She was born loving horses and wishing to have her own farm one day. That was 18 years ago. Now she runs Rancho Conquista along with her breeding farm and racing string. She believes that even when a horse is retired and is perhaps a gelding, she will keep him and use him for training.

Her breeding stock was never big, but grows little by little every year. Her racing stock also is not very big, but grows every year with the new 2 year olds. This is her story

I grew up with my parents on a reservation. Not one with many luxuries, but I had many friends, and everyone knew everyone. One day I was walking home from school and past by this farm, where this beautiful horse was out in the paddock. I remember looking at him, watching his main flutter in the breeze, he held his head up high, nostrils flared, his tail flowing behind him. The sun was shinning off his beautiful dark gray body. Then he raced off, and as I watched him I realized what I wanted to do with the rest of my life after I graduated from school. I wanted to train, breed, and race magnificent Thoroughbred horses.

The day after I graduated from college, my parents took me to this place. Of course they had not told me anything about this place, blind folded me and took me to this place. I had no clue and when we got there, my parents finally took off the blindfold and showed me this beautiful place. It of course, had no name. It was located over 40+ acres including a training barn, which could hold up to 30 horses in training, a mare barn, which could hold up to 40 mares and included foaling stalls, a stallion barn, which could hold up to 10 stallions plus a breeding room, a training track for both flat races and steeplechase, tons of trails, a house, and plenty of paddocks. Along with the farm, my parents gave me a sign that said, Welcome to Rancho Conquista. Where the horses live like champions. I couldnt believe that my parents could afford this place for me. I was close to tears as I thanked my parents.

We hired some people to help me out, a breeding manager named Mark Chas. He was going to handle the stallions, the breeding mares, and the foals until they could be trained in which they were handed over to our trainer. Our trainer is Jose Cuentas. He is a very capable trainer and looks forward to helping us out at Rancho Conquista. Next thing that we did was hire some stable hands. They were in charge of a specific horse, keeping that horse clean and comfortable, getting that horse ready for training, and such. We ended up hiring close to 30 people that day. They all had to reliable and trustworthy, since they were going to be working around very expensive animals.

The next day we went to the auction right near where Rancho Conquista was going to be. We ended up not buying any stallions, but we bought some mares that had foals and were in foal. Plus we bought some racers. The next day Eliza received a very fascinating call from her father.

Eliza dear, I was talking to a couple of people out by my way who really know their horses. They said that there is an up and coming horse by one of your mares that is supposedly really good. You should check them both out. The mare is Aces Galore and the foal is Walk of Fame. The foal was born in 96 so it may have a race record already. Check him out!

Thanks dad for the tip. I was on my way to check out the mares and foals and racers. I believe I will look closely at Aces Galore and her breeding. See who she can be bred to next year to have a stakes racer.

Baby, dont get your hopes up. I am just telling you what I know.

I appreciate it father. Good bye.

After the hung up, Eliza called in her trainer, Jose and the breeding manager Mark.

Jose have you heard of a colt named Walk of Fame?

Yes boss I have heard about that one.

Do you know his race record yet? I know that it is early, but he must have started racing by now.

I believe that he is owned by a farm called Willow Wood Farm. But as to his race record so far, I dont know.

Thank you. Mark, who is our mare Aces Galore bred to for next year?

I believe she is bred to Celtic Warrior.

I want her watched. She perhaps drops winning foals, and I want everything to be right.

Yes mam.

Thank you Mark. Now I will go and visit the horses. You care to join?

No mam. Im gonna go check on the mares and go home and sleep. I suggest you do the same mam. Its gonna get busy around here. Goodnit mam.

As Mark left her office, Eliza started to walk out to the barn. After she visited the horses she went back inside her house to sleep to a wait the coming day.
