Dear Christian Friends:
It is a privilege to write to you today. We pray that you have a wonderful and blessed
day as you serve the Lord there.
God is doing great things, today, throughout the
world. That is especially true here on
our field.
What a blessing it is, even at our age, to be able to live among these precious people, and to share with them the good news of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
On May 10, 1987, we went with a taxi driver, his family, and a few friends to begin a mission in an old garage building. The entire front of the building was open, and the floor was only oil-soaked dirt and gravel. New Jerusalem was to be the name of this new congregation.
Along the way, we organized our new mission into a
local Bible-believing Baptist Church.
Later, we went back to ordain the
taxi driver as pastor. With time, some
deacons were also ordained. The church
continued to grow. The people remodeled
the building all by themselves.
Sixteen years later, on May 10, 2003, we were invited back for an anniversary
celebration. The old garage building
has been converted into a beautiful worship center that anyone should be happy
with.
The church said that since we had done more than
anyone, anywhere, to help them to reach this special point in their
ministry, they wanted me to preach the
message that evening. There was an
over-flowing congregation.
To cap it all off,
the church had recently purchased a dilapidated, old bus from the city
transit system. For the anniversary service, some of the men went out with the bus and
brought in 40 new people who had not been attending church any place. Is that not wonderful?
Do please continue to pray for New Jerusalem Baptist Church as they now begin to reach out into
different areas with the message of salvation and eternal life.
Until next time,
Bro. Noel Edwards
