Naval defense and initial strategic bombardment are both acheived by this unit. While the bombardment capability is very weak, destroying up to 6 credits-worth of production, it is the least expensive unit for that purpose at 19 credit's of cost.
It is like the corvette (CRV) that it defends better than attacks, 37.5% hit success versus 25%, respectively. It's primary function though is to provide defense against sumbarine units, usually as coastal defense or escort duty for transports. For this reason, it is also included in many naval groups containing a capital ship.
It has no air-defense system, so will be an easy target for air units catching it seperate from other types of vessels. Frigates may well outnumber all other types of units in any navy. |
