Much of the engineering design involves the re-use of what already exist. It may be the case that a new design is not required, but the original design is adopted with a few engineering changes. For example, a factory has an existing design of Can-opener with UL version (exported to US). If in case they receive orders from Canada, what they do is simply change the UL version to CSA version. The core design remains unchanged. The only modification needed may be the redesign of power cord. Therefore, the availability to search for relevant data is required.
