The Defender is
another example of how Ambassador class Starship components can be reworked into
several other designs. The roots of the Defender class were layed in the Saladin
and later Jenghiz class Destroyers of the 2260's & 70's. A standard saucer
section comprising of 8 Type X Phaser Emitters was used while a Triangular
shaped torpedo pod with 2 launchers was mounted on the extreme aft portion of
the saucer. A small neck section connects to the ship's single Warp Nacelle. The
Defender is used as a Escort to the larger frigates and is perfectly suited to
harrying & distracting Enemy fleet units.
