Just after the Start of the Second Romulan War, Admiral Michael Davenport pushed into service all of the new designs that he had been working on. One of those was a design used by Starfleet in the 2270's. Romulan Fleet Commanders had begun to expect going up against powerful designs looking up to date . Since ship losses were starting to mount, he didn't have the time for a leisurly design process like he had with others. He brought up the Enterprise class design and deleted the secondary hull, slinging the two nacelles under a quad (4) torpedo launcher housing. He went up to the primary hull and gutted all of the science labs, sensors (save for targetting scanners) and secondary cargo bays to make room for extremly high power Phaser Banks. He worked in 8 Type XII units along with a limited supply of quantum torpedos. The Romulans considered older designs such as the Polaris to be easy picking and sent whole squadrons after these ships, only to find them torn up. This was a tactic that Davenport began to take to heart as the war drew on. Although the Polaris was orginally classified as a destroyer back in the day, the addition of type XII phaser units and quantum torpedos booted her up to the light cruiser bracket. Because of these improvements, the science labs had to be completly eliminated and sensors were limited. Although not as maneuverable as other ships of her size, the Polaris packs a heavy punch that made quite an impact.
