I was in Las Vegas this last weekend and confirmed some information I heard on a local sports talk radio station. They interviewed a college football scout for Tampa Bay and asked him who he thought was looking the best so far this season from NFL rookies. His answer was "Tory Holt without a doubt". He went on to say that there is more than "a general interest among NFL teams" in Holt, Bruce, Hakeem, and the Rams revamped offense. He also said Tampa Bay sent him to the Rams camp to confirm what he strongly suspected. "Sandbagging". "Holding back". "Not showing their stuff". These were some of the terms he used. When I got to Vegas I bolted right to the sports book thinking that the odds should be pretty big for the Rams to win the NFC and the Superbowl. Right I was. 100 to 1 to win the NFC and 200 to 1 to win the Superbowl. I figured that if they are baggin' I would throw some $ down and hope for freak luck to help out. Me and my fist full of $ went to place a bet after the game was over and was surprised to find that the odds had dropped to 35 to 1 and 80 to 1. The guy at the Showboat Sports Book said they dropped during the game. Oddsmakers have been looking into the possibility of the Rams holding back. He said chances are I would be lucky to get 7 to 1 by the end of the week. The Tampa Bay scout said if he were Vermeil he would fine Holt $100,000 if he even went over half-speed. He said the Rams probably won't go to him much if they have any brains at all. "Why show your hand?" He also said Bruce, Holt, and Hakeem probably won't make many appearances together until the season starts. He said "Now would be a good time for a phantom injury, probably Bruce because of his hamstrings". Sound familiar? He went on to say that with Holt, Bruce and Hakeem, defenses are gonna have a mammoth task in covering three "Cheetas with great hands that run great routes". When asked how does a defense cover these guys he responded "find 3 Deon's or move your DB's back 10 to 20 yards depending on their speed and pray for rain, snow, muddy field or anything that hinders their abilities". "The addition of Faulk and Green complete the package". "Vermeil would be the idiot of the century if he didn't down play this potential royal flush he's holding". "Who the hell wants to win the antee in a poker game?" "The last thing he needs is teams to be preparing for his team in the exibition part of the season". "I got a strong feeling teams are gonna come up short no matter how much they prepare". When I put these quotes together with Vegas oddsmakers and Vermeils pre-game statements, I come up with a shit-eatin' grin. Are we dragging our dicks in the mud on purpose gentlemen? Only time will tell...tic...tic...tic.........I sure as hell hope so.  Go Rams!!!!!!!!!
