I was listening to the game on the internet last night, and had to turn it off before the fateful play occurred. I woke up this morning to the news, and couldn't believe it. I think we all as Rams' fans were looking forward to a turnaround of sorts for this team, and our first thoughts upon realizing what had happened were of that turnaround going right down the toilet with Trent Green's knee.

I have been a Rams fan for over thirty years. I live in Ohio, and just recently got tickets to the St. Louis-Cincinnati game on Oct. 3rd. So I was as excited as anyone about the potent nature of our offense coming into this season.

I would like to express my hopes for Trent Green and family during his surgery and rehab. It must be a terrible emotional blow to him. He had to be looking forward so much to leading his hometown team into this season. So all the best to him.

We don't  really know what we have in Kurt Warner. He is a big, strong, athletic guy, and he may be able to utilize the weapons at his disposal well enough to make this an interesting season.

With the  fourth easiest schedule in the league, if a key player had to be lost, then this might be the season that we get away with it. It will be up to the other players not to let the loss of Green take the wind out of their sails. A tough task to be sure.

Certainly, signing a veteran is essential now. I spent the last couple of years watching Germaine at Ohio St. and I like him, but he is going to take some time before he is ready to take over if anything should happen to Warner. But that will be accomplished in the next few days I am sure.

I am trying not to write the season off.  I know the talent is there to still make this the kind of season we have been waiting for for the last 10 years. The emphasis of the offense may have to change early on to give Warner time to get the feel of being "The Man". But he shows ability, and it won't help him to have all of St. Louis pining for Green.

So let's get behind him, and hope for the best. Let's not let Trent's knee injury blow our excitement away. I am sure he wouldn't want that to happen, and he will be supporting Warner from the very beginning.

And so will I.
