Just a few items from this mornings broadcast from Rams Park:

Jack Snow says the key to this team is ball control. Can't emphasize enough the importance of the first game against Baltimore. A must win situation.

Caller: We need to make a statement against Atlanta in that third week. Our second game. The first 6-7 games will be a time of evaluation and will determine the direction of the team.

Caller: PSL holder. The Big Red entertained when they were here. That's what he's looking for this year is to be entertained. Getting Marshall Faulk who is a top-five back in the league. How'd they pull that off? The Colts got Edgerin James for about the same money. The offense is improved. The best improved offense in the league.

Jack Snow: We will win with this offense. Look at what Denver did with Terrell Davis. They won. He made an aging John Elway look brilliant. Marshall Faulk will help Trent Grent tremendously. Trent Green has excellent rapport with Mike Martz. They are of the same mind.

Jack Snow: The Rams were very competitive in 11 of the 16 games last year. Six of the 12 losses were by less than 7 ponts.

Conversation with Bob Wallace:

Tony Horne. On the last day of practice yesterday, Horne caught a touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone over by where the fans watch the practices at Rams Park. Both the fans and the players went nuts.

Tony realizes he needs to step it up if he's going to make this team. He's behind Bruce, Holt, Kakim, Proehl. Advantage is that he's heavily involved in special teams.

FROM YESTERDAY (Aug 17):

Guys are glad to get out of Macomb. There was a constant stream of cars out of Macomb on Friday night.

Team attitude. DV seems to have opened up a lot.Last year the weather was great in Macomb. DV worked them very hard. Too hard. This year it was extremely hot. DV pulled back. Good move.

New names. Mike Morton. Frohbeiter (PUP), Brian Lytle, Galon Hyder, Marshall Faulk. Donald Sellars and John Jacobs (both gone). Barry Mitchell.

Jack Snow on the Ring of Fame at the Dome. Should be Rams only. Not former St. Louis Football Cardinals. In Arrowhead stadium in KC and in Texas Stadium for the Cowboys in Irving, it is Chiefs and Cowboys only. This is the Rams' team not Cardinals. No disrespect intended for the Jackie Smiths, Dan Dierdorfs and Larry Wilsons of the Cardinals but they should be separate. Like in the TWA atriums of something. Not the ring of fame. Should be Rams only.

Bubble players. Aug. 31 cut-down date. Depends on practice and game time. Plenty of time yet. Jack Snow's not going to worry about it until Aug. 24 or so. Battles at middle line backer. Bunting hasn't picked a starter yet. Again, plenty of time.

Jack Snow comments. The three-step drops by Green will make the offensive line look a lot better this year. The short drop builds confidence in the offensive line. Freddy Miller will be a key lineman to watch develop this year. This could be a very good offensive line.
