I was sitting alone in a rural PA bar last night trying to coax the bartender into "just one more" and expecting  Styx's "Too Much Time On My Hands" to break out para-normally on the juke box when two guys from Philly who own a cabin up here came blustering in demanding to see the Midnight replay of the Eagles/Ravens game. At first, I was glad to see them because it meant that I would get at least "one more". First impressions, as they say, can be deceiving. Speaking of impressions, here are some of mine regarding the game  (Larry King style):

- Michelob tastes best in the bottle.

- if I were an Eagle or a Ravens fan, I would be out on the roof right now (and it's raining, mind you) with a hacksaw cutting down my dish rather than face the upcoming season.

- somebody needs to invent a word that describes Eagle fans only. Obnoxious just isn't strong enough a word. These guys spent the first half offering to pound anyone who even suggested that the Eagles wouldn't make the playoffs. After watching what the USA Today described as a "dreadful" first half, they then offered to pound anyone who suggested that the Eagles had a chance of winning a game this year. (Because there was just me and the bartender present when they offered these free ass kickings, I discreetly nodded my head to both theories and kept ordering Michelobs.)

- if the Rams don't beat both of these teams this year, we will have the #1 pick in the draft. We won't be able to beat ANYBODY IN THE NFL if we can't beat these jokers.

- I read somewhere that Marino and Elway only squared off head to head twice in their hall of fame careers. I can't wait to tell my grandkids that I viewd the first Doug Pederson VS Scott Mitchell battle (only when I tell my grandkids, I kicked both the Eagle's fans asses in this version. Hey! I'm old! The memory isn't what it used to be!).

- in the Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics category, don't believe what you read about Tony Banks outplaying all the other QB's. That's like being the tallest pygmy in the tribe. He did zip the ball into some tight coverage; he always could. I remember when TB shined for the RAMS at first against preseason. defenses. Wait until teams start blitzing and rotating corners/coverage and he has to actually read a defense in the face of a rush. He did his best to give the Eagles a TD, but the guy dropped a sure INT/TD.

- I'll never forget the image of Tony calmly walking out for the first time in a Ravens uniform to take his first snap from center - AND GETTING A DELAY OF GAME PENALTY (sound familiar, anyone?). Once the ball was snapped, TB tripped over his center's feet(sound familiar, anyone?).

WARNING: BEFORE ANYONE GETS ON THIS BB TO TELL ME TO "LET THE TONY BANKS THING GO" I'LL SAY THIS: HELL NO! FIRSTLY, THIS GUY HELPED TO RUIN THREE YEARS OF MY FOOTBALL VIEWING LIFE (I bought a dish for THIS?) and SECONDLY, YOU'RE THE SAME GUYS THAT WILL BE TELLING EVERYONE TO "EAT CROW" THE MINUTE HE THROWS HIS FIRST TD FOR ANOTHER TEAM (should that actually ever happen).

- I'll bet Brian Billick never forgets his first replay challenge. TB threw a sideline dart to a reciever and the ref said his foot was out of bounds. Billick challenged the call and-- upon further review--BOTH of the receivers feet were out of bounds. Another example of crack NFL technology at work.

- Bill Johnson was a LOAD for the Eagles in the middle. They must have called his number a half dozen times. He is one of the few players from the past three years (along with Roman Phifer) that I can actually say "I wish he still played for us".

- Even after the Michelob's kicked in, I still couldn't have given those two Eagles fans any s***.  Their worst record in the NFL squad managed to beat us. Last year's RAMS/Eagles ESPN Special was a low point for me as a RAMS fan, and not just because of the terrible game that was being played before us. I went to the game, and because I wanted DV to get fired and a shot at Rickey Williams, I actually found myself rooting for the Eagles. Not only did I become one of the aforementioned more than obnoxious Eagle type fans, I betrayed my Blue and Gold! No matter how bad things get, this will NEVER, EVER happen again.

Thank God for our miraculous offseason or I'd be up on the roof with those Eagle/Ravens fans trying to figure out who we'll draft with the first pick.

(ps: Dijon is the best mustard of them all)
(pss: Take that, Larry King!)
