Secondary development: Practicing against Bruce and Holt goes a long way in developing the secondary.

Dexter McCleon: He is a very different football player. He was ready to start last year. He's a better athlete than the future Hall of Famer Ryan McNeil. Dexter is the finest technician as far as mechanics go. Needs to do it in the game. Fear motivates them to improve. Secondaries today need to think quicker. Better mental reaction. You can't coach quickness. You need to do it in the game.

Mood of the team. A completely different mind set. Confident. Lots of dangerous offensive weapons. Things are going well on the injury front. Last year with all the injuries, mistakes were thus magnified. Trent Green is smart. He's not the Michael Jordan of football by any means but he's smart. The defense sees Green's intelligence. They can therefore play more aggressively cause a mistake by them wont turn the game around. Faith in the offense. Offense will have sustained drives. Not a lot of 3 and outs.

Differences in teams as compared to 1983 when he played. Different music in locker room. This stuff they listen too is nuts. We played the Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire. (MJR: Excellent choices BTW).

The desire is the same. More money. Everything else is the same. The Rams this year have a great bunch of guys in the locker room.

His message to the players. Be thankful for the opportunity to play in the NFL.

On being a young coach on a team with a lot of older coaches. It's good for me becuase of the wisdom of the older guys. Being with Bud Carson was a phenomenal learning experience.

Changes in DV: He's more at ease. Most importantly, he's an offensive-minded coach who is now more comfortable with his weapons. He can now be more of a head coach rather than an offensive coordinator. Faith in Martz.

Torry Holt. Phenomenal hands. Needs to learn to use his speed. Needs to develop different looks. Use his hands and best to his best advantage. Basically, learn the NFL game.

Overall. More enthusiasm.

POSTSCRIPT: JOHN CLAYTON PIECE LAST NIGHT FROM ESPN RADIO.

The Rams have stumbled through the 1990s. They've traded for Faulk. They picked up Trent Green after only 14 NFL starts. Drafted Torry Holt. The organization has made a committment to winning. Mike Martz brought in. Trent Green's job/goal is to be consistent/accurate. Getting the ball into the hands of his offensive weapons. Marshall Faulk will be running behind 3-yr veteran Orlando Pace. This on a team whose top rusher last season was June Henley with 313 yards.
