PURPOSE:
HYPOTHESIS:
MATERIALS:
SKETCH:
Ring stand
String
Paper clip
Washer
Stopwatch
Protractor
PROCEDURE:
1. Hold pendulum at 90 degrees and release.
2. Start stopwatch at time of release.
3. Stop stopwatch at end of 10 periods.
4. Record time for 10 periods.
5. Repeat steps 3-6 two more times.
6. Calculate average time for 10 periods.
7. Calculate time of one period. Divide the average time for 10 periods
by 10.
*Calculate to 1/100 – 2 places to the right of the decimal
8. Hold pendulum at 70 degrees and release.
9. Repeat steps 2-7.
10. Hold pendulum at 50 degrees and release.
11. Repeat steps 2-7.
12. Hold pendulum at 30 degrees and release.
13. Repeat steps 2-7.
14. Graph “Time in seconds” (on X-axis) VS “Arc in degrees” (Y-axis)
*Use data from “1 Period”
column
15. Calculate percent change (% change) to determine amount of differences
in your data between trials
*% Change
= Highest Time – Lowest Time X
100
Average Time

CONCLUSION:
THESIS STATEMENT:
DATA INTERPRETATION:
1. Did the arc angle affect the period? (direct or indirect relationship)
2. How do you know?
a. Graph
b. Table
3. Was the % change significant or important in this lab?
4. Were the differences in the data due to human error or changes in
the pendulum?
5. How do you know?
*% Change
ERRORS:
What are some possible sources of errors for this lab?
