| And So I Fell |
| She could have been a goddess. Pale skin shone with an inner luminescence, slender shoulders thrown back in defiance, chin high and silver tresses creating a curtain of liquid lightning down her back, a few strands trickling forward to frame the delicate facade in its own mercurial aura. Twin shards of biting violet that held the sharp edge of a knife blade within their depths glared forth in unmitigated rebellion, slender arms crossed before her as milky pinions cast with opalescent sheen shifted their delicate archs upon her back, with a treasonous whisper that betrayed their velvet texture. The femme either didnt seem to notice - -or merely didnt care - - about the two males that stood to either side and a step behind, motionless but poised, should she attempt any sort of escape. Nae, the girl was not so foolish, but she refused to drop her gaze as her Superior continued to lecture. Supple sanguines curved in the vestige of a smile, not even blinking as the male turned to her two companions beseechingly, and she felt their grips tighten upon her upper arms like iron bands. The Seraphim approached her finally and, outright, gazed down into the femme's unending pools of impenetrable indigo-ringed violet, as the ocean at its most mysterious - the sun lapped wavelets above giving no hint to the incalculable fathoms that lay beneath. So you understand why you were brought here? The male finally questioned in exasperation. Yes. Her voice was elemental. It reminded one vaguely of the sound of crystals clinking together, or a waterfall breaking free of age old bounds to wreak its own path through uncharted lands. Liquid silk that sheathed a dagger in its supple caress might have sounded like the young Angels voice had it been able to speak. Then -why- did you do it? The Seraphim sounded aggrieved. Because I could. He stared at her a moment, as though he were watching something far away, that he only now realized was out of reach. But why? Those velvet tiers curved in a maternal smile, the like of which a mother would offer her child when she explained that yes, all fires -do- burn. You really want to know? The words were supple and smooth, but the intent was clear. If he asked again, she would tell.. but she would pay no consequence for how her words would affect her audience. He merely nodded. And she smiled..a slow, languid smile that might have graced the muzzle of a tigress as she moved in for the kill, shrugging off the hands at her shoulders. You know how it began[link].. so Ill take up in the middle.. [-x- ..flash back.. -x-] So it would be my fault? You could Fall for this, then? Nick sounded desperate, and his grip on Celenes arm only tightened. You cant ask me to do this.. Im not asking! Milky pinions were bristling, and the slight femme had taken to pacing the room, glaring balefully at the surrounds. I refuse to let Them dictate my damn life! Her frustration elevated her tone, and she maintained the inexplicable urge to just -break- something. Quicksilver hues fled toward the male, shock flitting over her features as she viewed her own desperation..need.. reflected back in Nicks face. But he seemed to recover somewhat.. tearing his gaze away.Id -lose- you, though.. please, Cel. It isnt worth the risk.. no matter what. His usual devil-may-care smirk was replaced with a harrowing frown, slate blue gaze lingering on the angel. Nothing is ever worth the risk.. She retorted, resisting the urge to stamp her foot like a child. Please, Nick. I cant keep this up. It was a deep, cavernous hole inside, that grew as each day passed, overshadowing the placidity of her current life with the future turn of events. Because the femme knew, deep down, that he would succumb to her eventually.. knew, because she knew the inevitability of her Fall. It was a matter of time.. precious time like untarnished diamonds slipping through her fingers. If not because of Nick, it would be because of someone else. But the Taint was already in her blood- she just needed to be allowed to prove it. She needed him to prove it.. and gods, she just.. needed.. -him-. Digits curled about his shoulders as she drew him gingerly to her; she could feel the tension that lay beneath her hands... Feel the same need echoed back and, as his arms closed around her, could feel him give in. Lids fell to brush satin cheeks, as she surrendered to his touch... [-x- ..return.. -x-] She shrugged eloquently, regard rising. So you dont even deny it? He seemed incredulous. And she seemed surprised. Of course not. I merely ask what the punishment is. Suit yourself, Celien. He murmured, the angelic pet name hed known since the two had been young implemented almost absently. But she had never made it as high as he in the angelic ranks. And perhaps this was why. The punishment as it has fallen to me is Forward Execution. She stood very still, and stared for a very long while, disbelief soon gliding awry and replaced by pain. And, still further..anger. No. You cant. It isnt his fault, Keareth.. youre punishing -me- here, not Nick. Her vehemence laced her words with fire, gaze of liquid silver narrowed in sudden and complete antagonism. Angels are not corrupt, Celien. Others corrupt them. We are merely seeing to it that the temptation is no longer present. Temptation? Gods, Keareth! You make it sound as though he lured me off! I went willingly.. in fact, Im the one who tempted -him-... he didnt want to go through with it.. he knew what would happen. And I -did- have him. And I would do it again.. and again.." She enunciated purposely, gaze glinting with the malice of her taunts. "Too much is denied merely because it isnt 'pure.' But dont you dare tell me that killing Nick will make a difference. Id rather Fall then watch him be killed. Her words were bitter with inexplicable anger, milky pinions absistle as each feather seemed to declare war upon its mates, demanding at least a forty five degree angle betwixt itself and its neighbor pinions. No angel is Tainted, Celene. Youre irrational, dont worry.. everything will be fine. A gesture was made, and no expression offered as the male was escorted forward. Nick! Desperation laced the syllable, and had it not been for the quick motions of the guards.. digits like steel bands clamping about her upper arms.. she would have been beside him in a second. And he struggled too.. Goddess help me.. Silver rain collected in heavy lashes, and she suddenly went slack in the grips of the guards, collapsing to the floor. The two males, uneasy, released her for the time being, allowing the femme her space. ~Nick.. oh gods. Oh, Im so sorry. You must hate me..~ ~It was my choice too, Cel.. and I wouldnt take it back. Im just sorry theyre putting you through this.~ Putting.. me..through it. Her voice had a hysterical edge to it, and the two Archangels glanced to the Seraphim questioningly. Oh yes.. she was being put through hell.. but him? No.. No! In a movement like a snake striking.. only infinitely more perfect and graceful.. more deadly.. she lunged up and forward. And the small blade struck true, driving upward between the Seraphims ribs. Now.. Keareth. -Now-, theres no turning back for me. She ground out, shoving him away. Freed from the empathic hold of the Superior angel, a wave of her hand dismissed the two Archangels from the waking world, as well as the two by Nick. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she made her way to him, blood soaked dagger relieving him of his bindings. Velvet tiers brushed his forehead, voice trembling. Gods, Nick.. I really screwed up this time, huh? And for everything I am.. I cant even save you.. hell. I cant even save myself, now. But you can start over.. and you wont remember me. Wont remember the pain. Oh Nick.. Im so sorry.. Shh.. Celien, no.. If youre in trouble, Im not leaving. Nothing matters..Please, don't-- It does. The heel of her palm brushed away the last of her tears. Tears that would never fall again. "It does matter. Ill find you again.. I promise, Nick. Ill find you somehow.. She backed a step away, forcing the tremors to ease. A raised hand..palm forward.. stilled any attempt the male made to follow. Slender digits slowly clenched.. and she drained the life from the male. "Don't forget me, Nick.. please ..don't forget me.." Such a soft murmur, as a last surge of will forced his soul back into the Nexus.. back to a place he could be reborn. Drained to the point of exhaustion.. both physical and mental.. she collapsed beside his now still form, gazing at the marble perfection beneath, marred by whorls of divine lifeblood, smeared like paint at the fingers of a child.. She didnt put up a struggle as the Angelic vengeance arrived.. didn't hear the punishments as they were read.. only knew once she awoke in the middle of nowhere; although one persons nowhere is anothers somewhere, and this 'somewhere' was the place she had grown so used to watching over. Only now.. it was from the inside. Now, it was she forced to the ground, gaze forever upturned to the glossy night sky. Only hope lingered; only a prayer to once again find her soulmate.. |
