| The Akutenshi Clan was a warrior angel race, though no one is sure how they came into creation. Akutenshi, translated to Standard from [Japanese], means Dark/Evil Angel, though they were not so evil in nature as they were dark, covert and mysterious. The Clan had two divisions, the Southern and the Northern. But while the Northern thinned out, the South grew and flourished in the land, establishing their stronghold in a castle known as Kyrile, to the south of Rhy'Din. One of the most influential, and certainly powerful races in all the lands, the Akutenshi were notorious for finding trouble with their neighbors. But it found -them- in what began as a few sparse and far between battles with another race--ArchAngels. And what started as a "few" battles suddenly became an invasion and War. Unimaginably outnumbered from the start, the Akutenshi were able to hold off the ArchAngels for two long years, until the Kyrile finally fell. No Akutenshi were thought to have escaped the massacre. Warriors, men, women, children...all slaughtered helplessly by the ArchAngels. But a few, it turned out, did escape. And those that did invariably fled northward. Adraste was daughter to the Southern Clan General. Raised as a warrior, she was to take his place in the future. Born during the time right before the War, when the Clan was only engaged in infrequent raiding along the border with the ArchAngels, she was not given the life of a normal girl. Instead, life boiled down to training, from weapons which varied from the bow to the sword, war strategy, and her most precious gift, Empath. Taught by the best, her skill grew to unseen lengths as she came of age, and what had once been the lanky, skinniness of youth now blossomed into the warrior chylde who would be forced to face everything her training had been preparing her for. And the time came all too quickly. At 16, the ArchAngel invasion began, forces led by Adonis Donegal, a first generation and powerful ArchAngel. Like Adraste, he was fulfilling his role as leader at a young age, just 17, but his forces were well led nonetheless. They swept like a tide into the lands, until most Akutenshi had found refuge around Kyrile, the center of Akutenshi control. If it fell, so would the Clan. But Adonis was smart..manipulative. Since the first time he watched the young warrior "princess" in battle, he knew the symbol she stood for to her Clan, and her father. Soon after, the General was killed in battle, and Kiara grudgingly stepped into command. But an ambush and kidnaping brought her leadership to an abrupt halt. Her spiteful ebony gaze met the tumultuous grey of the ArchAngel, Adonis, and thus began a year of hell. Adonis wanted to know a way into the castle, how to make the stronghold fall. Kiara just wanted to survive. But Adonis could see the wildness, the spirit in her, and knew the proceeding would be difficult. She was put through beatings, whippings, rape, childbirth, and had to watch her two children die before her at Adonis' hands, until he finally resorted to the use of ArchAngel Crystals. A creation of the Angel race, one would link the stone with the victim's blood, then "turn on" the crystal and cause pain in the mind. By almost shredding the helpless Kiara's mind to tatters, he managed to pull the images from her mind himself with his own Empath. Too weak to block the attempt, Kiara blacked out. Kyrile fell two weeks later. But during this hell, there was one ArchAngel, Mathias, who had taken pity upon the Akutenshi. Slowly helping the near dead Dark Angel recover, her trust slowly grew with the ArchAngel, who's views seemed contrary to those of most of his race. It was, for the first time, a chance for Kiara to have known true love. And thus, he finally risked everything for her, undoing the spells that held her Empath silent, releasing her bonds and riding with her away from the camp. The two fleeing forms were spotted though, and only Kiara escaped.. Mathias, charged with treason and abandonment, was executed. A deep, cavernous hole in her heart, the Akutenshi ran on. She did lead a semi normal life afterward. Taking refuge in the form of a pitch and silver shewolf, she became mate to a silver wolf named Mercury. Or rather, Mercurious Cyllen BlackHeart. And unknown to her at the time, Cyllen was an ArchAngel. His orders during the war had been simple. He was the one who was to either coerce, or kidnap, rape and kill the Head Akutenshi officer, namely Adraste, after finding out what they needed to know. But Adonis soon withdrew the orders, deciding instead to fulfil them himself. Cyllen, having watched the Akutenshi closely, whose kind deep down he hated to near vicious proportion, remained at a distance. When she escaped, he had been one to raise alarm and follow. But while the rest returned with Matias to execute him, the ArchAngel followed Kiara north. He, too, took wolven shape, as well as a new name--Mercury. Adraste and "Mercury" met in the pack of his brother, MaTaki. Though originally something seemed to ignite only argument between them, most likely their opposing natures, he finally took her a bit unexpectedly as his mate. When MaTaki died, the two ascended to the alphaship. And that was when he confessed to her he was an ArchAngel. Crushed and feeling betrayed, it took a long while for her to regain her past composure. During this time, however, the Akutenshi was not without friendship. The tattered ability to trust toward archangels didn't apply to the quick bond that formed in the most unlikely of places, between the Angel and a StarChyld named Aielah. Executed and Fallen, the two shared more in common then either could have known, the least of which being dark, painful pasts. At times, the only thing in the world which holds true and continues, unwaveringly, to be a source of strength and understanding in light of the constant turmoil of life is the improbable friendship between the two of them. In pain, and in happiness, the two are nearly inseperable and, to the dismay of those around them, often a duo of unrivaled mischief. Especially when they decide to tease the Archangel, much to his own disdain. Kiara still searches, unwittingly, for the rest of the Clan she knows had to have survived, though so far it has been a frustrating, fruitless journey. Old friends and enemies alike seem to impede on her present at will, as has Alec, who has just recently made his renewed presence known. Consumed by his desire to know the secret of the Star Lotus, an Akutenshi weapon eons old, its knowledge lost to even Kiara, he has followed the Akutenshi in hopes of retrieving the lost knowledge that only she could possess. The most recent and indeed, most haunting return of the 'ghosts' from Adraste's past is that of Gavin, the "White Hawk." As cruel and sadistic as he is handsome, the male had been the one who, during the war, had given special attention to the task of retrieving the necessary information from the captured Commander. With his return came utter heartbreak, as her mate and husband, Cyllen, was slaughtered by the vengeful Archangel, his soul trapped in a Crystal. Adraste and Aielah have vowed revenge, and they thought only time would tell... But was the archangel stupid enough to return of his own free will? Gavin, unseen to any but Aielah, returned. Returned, after having earlier left the Star raped and with child----twins. His return is of duel meanings, for he has brought back the Crystal which holds the entrapped Cyllen's soul. And willingly returned it to Adraste. But at what price does she get her love back at? What will Gavin demand in return...? None were to find out then, and heedless of both her Sister's and the Archangel's warnings, she was quick to utilize the stone to restore Cyllen's soul to his physical form. His return was all she could have wished - perfect. Too perfect, perhaps, as she was once more embraced by the Archangel. But Cy's soul had been too long in the Nexus... too long with the other Archangel souls, whose hatred for the Akutenshi had lain dormant for so long. And in the reincarnate, they had found a voice. Before any could notice the false suavity of the male, however, Adraste's joy at the reunion through both her dragon, Areanth, and firelizard, Starfyre, into Flight. At first fighting the dragoness' pull, Cyllen's quiet words and comforting presence drew her back into a submissive lull. The golden Areanth was flown by Cy's Mirth... and Starfyre, too, was captured by one of Cy's Impression, Tyr. Caught up in both draconic and lizard flights of passion, her reunion with the Archangel found it's completion in the flesh. But how long would the Akutenshi's delusions last? to be continued... |
