When Lucifer's revolt wracked the skies, too many of heaven's front were unhappy with God's careful hand over their lives, and the steady flow of angels out of heaven was a phenomenal occurrence which left middle earth and hell in shock. Not even Lucifer had anticipated such grounded support, and he chose to wait until all had settled anew before the Morning Star would take on the One God. But the One God grew so furious at the disobedience and heresy of his angels that he slammed shut the gates of heaven, allowing no more to flee the paradise it protected. Those Angels who were trapped outside of heaven Fell to earth, their wings tainting black and their minds scouring over with all instincts and urges denied to them above. They no longer called them-selves angels, but Akutenshi - dark angels, and they lived and prospered in the land of Lania, their stronghold at Kyrile one of prosperity and peace among them. But God was displeased with the Akutenshi's tolerance and success in their condemned lives, and he sent his white knights, the Archangels, down from heaven in the years following the fall of Lucifer's rebellion to wipe out those that had pulled away from God. A great war broke out between the two species, as angel fought angel in a deadly clash.
Following her father's death, Kiara Adraste became the general of the Akutenshi forces. Her direct opponent, head of the Archangel forces, was Adonis Donnegal. Through underhanded means and a betrayal amidst the highest order of the Akutenshi, Kiara was kidnapped and turned over to Adonis and his right hand, Gavin Nayelet, The White Hawk. Bruised, tortured, broken, beaten and raped, Kiara refused to give them the needed information about a back route into Kyrile. For eleven months she was forced beneath their intender mercies, five of which were spent pregnant with two children of Adonis - hybrids, damned to a mind and body of torn color and impulse. Kael was the firstborn, a young male with wings of pitch and hair of shocking ivory. His twin sister was Tsia, her wings a shuddering fade from black at the arch, to silver, to white at the tips of primaries. Hair was likewise a fade, black at the roots to white at the tips. Kael could have dyed his hair to fit in among the Akutenshi - Tsia was damned to forever appear a hybrid.
Pretending to have killed them at birth in order to further derange an already pained mentality in the Akutenshi general, Adonis instead had the two young trained in battle arts in the years that followed Kiara's escape. Yet her brother would have none of it. If Adonis had hoped the Akutenshi blood within their veins would make them more vicious and murderous, he soon found himself mistaken. Kael's archangel blood was too strong, and he spent many hours praying to a God that seemed deaf to the defiled Archangel group. In a fit of rage, Adonis slew Kael before Tsia's own eyes, warning that it would be her fate as well if she did not concede. But it was hell to live among the Archangels - all of them seeing nothing but the taint in her blood. When she escaped and found her way to her mother's people, however, nothing changed. If she was amidst the white, all they noticed was she was half black. Amidst the black, all understood her only as being tainted by white. She belonged nowhere, and her mind was rent asunder by the conflicts of blood that seared through her veins. Finally fleeing the battleground altogether, she was not present for the final fall of Kyrile. Passing the centuries in isolation, the onslaught of the modern world has provided a new chance to belong somewhere: for those who know nothing of her past, she is only an angel with the features of a goddess, and a voice that could have blessed the heavens with its song. Tsia would never be able to abandon the pain of her past, whose nightmares would forever haunt her present and future. But perhaps, in time, she would be given the chance to finally find a place where, even knowing what she was... she still belonged.
