Released in 1995 and still widely in use today, the Playstation was a big success for Sony. The Playstation was really the console that won the "next-gen" wars, and bested Nintendo's cartridges and programming interface as well as Sega's small hardware and marketing capabilities. Sony's next project was the Playstation 2, and although it was impossible to find when it was first released and didn't become widely available until recently, the hardware capabilities surpassed that of other consoles at it's time, at least until it's rival the Microsoft Xbox went in market. Rumors of a Playstation 3 are already spreading about.
