The Guppy is one of the most popular fish in aquariums. They are very peaceful, friendly and do not bother other fish in the aquarium. They have a lot of color all over them and are one of the easiest fish to breed. Some have been know to breed once a month to once in two months. Feeding You can get away with feeding them any flake food that is for Tropical fish. Guppies love to eat live foods such as brine Shrimp and other small live foods. Make sure you have some live plants in their tank to so they can have some plants to eat when ever they want. Breeding When breeding Guppies raise the temp up a little and make sure the water is clean and the pH is at a normal level for them. It won't take long before you have a lot of little Guppies swimming around your tank. They will eat their babies just like all most all kinds of fish do so either put the parents in a "Breeding tank" or put a lot of plants in the tank so they will be able to hide. Java Moss would be an excellent choice. It would give plenty of hiding places. Another thing you could do after the babies are born and swimming around the tank is taking a very fine net to catch the babies and put them in another tank to raise them. I do not recommend that because when you do that you will make the fish afraid or hurt them. I did that and all most all of them died. |
