Zebra Danio

Size:                2.5 - 3"

PH:                  6.5 - 7.4

Temp:              65 - 78F

Tank size:        20 Gallons

Feeding:          Flake foods, small live foods, and plant matter

The Zebra Danio is a peaceful community fish that likes to be kept in groups of at least 4 or more.  They also like to eat small plants and live foods such as Brine shrimp.  They do not rip apart the plants like some other fish, they just nibble at them.  The temp should be between 65 and 78F.  I keep mine at 78 to 82F and they seem to be doing fine.  The pH for Zebra Danios should be between 6.5 and 7.4 and they should have at least a 20 gallon tank but it depends on what kind of Danio you have if you get the smaller ones you could get away with a 10 gallon but they would be much happier in a 20 gallon.

Breeding Zebra Danios is relatively easy to breed.  If you want to breed them raise the temp of the water to 26C and have a well planted tank so that when they have the babies they can hide when they are hatched. The Zebra Danios will eat there babies so either take the parents out and place them in to another tank so the babies will grow or make sure they will have a lot of places to hide from the parents.  It takes about 8 months for the babies to reach maturity so they do grow rather quickly.
