Tank's Diary

March 2, 2004
Today is my birthday. My Mama's name is Magic and I got lots
of brothers and sisters. Mama had 4 boys and 4 girls - 4 black puppies
and 4 yellow puppies. I'm a little yellow girl. Today has been a
big day and I'm dog tired. Someone named Jenn came today and
looked at me. She says I'm beautiful. After she made a call to
someone else named Pupp, Jenn said that I was gonna live with
Jenn and Pupp after I was big enough to be away from my Mama.
I can't imagine ever leaving my Mama. In the evening, Jenn brought
Pupp to see me. They took a picture of me on my Mama's nose.
Everyone said it was cute, but I just want to get back to dinner.

March 3, 2004
Pupp handed out pink "It's a girl" suckers to everyone at
work. Everyone wanted to know if I was going to be a therapy dog like Jett.

March 5, 2004
My new Mommy and Daddy got married. My sister, Jett, was the
flower girl and she got to stand between them when they said
their vows. I didn't get to go cuz I'm still a tiny baby.

March 6, 2004
Jenn came by to pick up her motorcycle. She didn't get to look
at me though. She wanted to but there wasn't time as the tow
truck came fast.

March 7, 2004
Jenn and Pupp came to visit me. They can't pick me up or even
touch me yet. The nice lady that takes care of us and cleans
our box, Barb, wants us to be healthy and won't let anyone else
touch us. Everyone says I'm beautiful. I'm not sure if they even
know which puppy is me. They say that my Mama is a good mommy.

March 13, 2004
Pupp, Jenn and Jett went to a Dock Dog fun day. They talked about
me a lot. They say that I'm gonna be a therapy dog AND a Dock Dog.
Boy, they sure have a lot of plans for me and I'm just a little baby!

March 14, 2004
That Barb person cleaned our bed today and the Pupp person put
all the puppies in a box while they cleaned our bed. Not me though.
The Jenn person held onto me. She held me so close and talked to
me. Then the Pupp person wanted to hold me. Jenn didn't want to
share but she did anyway. Jenn told Pupp that I was Pupp's new baby
girl as she handed me over to Pupp. I sucked on Pupp's little finger!
Then I sucked on Pupp's shirt. Later on, Pupp and Jenn bragged to
their friends that they finally got to hold me for the first time.

March 19, 2004
My Jenn and Pupp came to visit me today! And this time I actually
could see them. My eyes are open now. Pupp helped Barb clean out
our bed again while Jenn held me. Pupp sat in the recliner and
zipped me up in her jacket vest. I slept on her chest while Jenn
took pictures. Pupp whispered in my ear. She said, "Little one,
your name is Tank. Brandywine's Magic Tank Girl. You're gonna be
a therapy dog. And a service dog. And a Dock Dog. And some other
stuff that we don't know about yet. You are going to be one of the
best loved puppies ever, I promise. You have a big sister, Jett,
who can't wait to see you. We have to wait til you get bigger though."
I yawned. Pupp mentioned that when she whispered Jett's name to her
when Jett was my age, Jett bit Pupp on the ear. "This little girl
just yawned!" Jenn said it was because I didn't really care about
anything but eating and sleeping just yet.

March 21, 2004
Pupp spent the day "puppy proofing" the house to get
ready for me. Jett followed Pupp around and "helped".
Jenn studied and took a nap.

March 22, 2004
Jenn left her purse here and so my new Mama and Daddy came
to see me again. Pupp secretly believes that Jenn left her
purse on purpose as an excuse to see me again so soon! This
time when Pupp was watching us through the window, she got
to see us walking around more and playing. A black puppy and
a yellow puppy were trying to chew on each others noses. I was
sleeping. Also, us puppies are starting to bark and growl.
It's kinda cute to the humans. Barb play-yelled at us Ornery Pups
to not bark at her! Pupp held me while my doggie mommy watched.
My doggie mommy is very protective. Joe, one of the humans who
takes care of us, stood by to make sure that my doggie mommy
behaved herself. Pupp didn't want to give Jenn a turn to hold
me but Jenn insisted. They say that I'm quite different than
Jett when she was a baby. They say that Jett was very active
and wiggly. I'm very laid back and calm. I cuddle a lot. These
humans just melt when I cuddle my head up under their chins and
grunt grunt grunt. I'll have to remember that acting
cute makes them so silly.

June 18, 2004
Well, that Daddy person has been lazy! My diary hasn't been updated
since I've been home!! I guess that I keep everyone so busy that
no one has time to write in my diary. Mama and Daddy were so
excited to take me home. When we got home that first night, my
new best friend, Jett, took out all her toys to show me. I was
so little that I didn't play much. I wanted to sit on Mama's
lap mostly. Mama and Daddy didn't sleep much those first few
weeks. I was a good girl and slept quiety in my box but when
I had to pee, I screamed! I learned to play with Jett. Jett
was so very gentle with me! Daddy was very proud of Jett for
being such a good doggie mommy. I came home on Jett's birthday.
That next weekend, Mama and Daddy had a party for Jett. Lots of
people came to Jett's party and to see me. I got to be held by
so many nice people. After everyone left, I fell asleep and
Natalie and Luana took lots of pictures of me as they tortued
me with stuff like baseball caps, beer bottles, sunglasses,
and other stuff. They also took pictures of Jett. I wasn't
too much older when Jett had to have knee surgery. I didn't
understand why my friend had to stay in the box. And she cried.
And Mama and Daddy were so very worried about her. I would lay
in front of Jett's box to keep her company. I didn't understand
why my friend couldn't play. AND . . . Daddy moved the big
bed to the dining room and our boxes too. Daddy said it was
so Jett didn't have to walk so far to potty outside. We camped
out in the dining room for over a month. I thought it was fun.
Daddy and Mama spent a lot of time sitting on the floor in
front of Jett's box to keep Jett company. I tried to help,
but I wasn't allowed in the box with Jett like I kept trying.
Then, I was finally allowed to play with Jett a bit as long as
Jett layed down. Dad was always telling Jett to "lay down" and
telling me "no bite"! Finally, Dad moved the bed and our boxes
back into the bedroom. The best thing about that was that I got
to chase Mama's cats! They are fun, and they make the most
interesting noises when I corner them. Daddy says that one day
they'll scratch my eyes out and then it'll cost a lot of money
at the vet! I learned lots of new stuff after I finally came home.
I know how to come, shake, sit, down, stay, leave it, and out of
the kitchen. I learned how to take myself out to the backyard to
"hurry". Now I'm so good at it, I don't always have to be on the
rope. I come back when Mama calls me. When I do this, I get a
cookie. Daddy has a doggie cookie jar shaped like a dog. It plays
"Who let the dogs out" and "Hound dog". When I hear it, I come
running even faster! Dad says I'm so different than Jett when
she was my age. Dad says that Jett was a Daddy's Girl and I'm a
Mama's Girl. Jett liked to run, and I fall down a lot, mostly on
my face. Jett was very quiet, and I talk all the time! Mama
calls this back talking. They say they don't like it but they
laugh mostly. One time I got a V-8 Bottle stuck on my head! I
cried and cried and ran into the house and Mama had to run after
me. It's hard for Mamas to run when they are laughing so much.
And I learned a very hard lesson from Jett. Jett was in her box
with her bone. I had a bone too, but I left mine outside. Jett
growled and I didn't understand what she meant. I thought she was
playing. I tried to take her bone and she bit me on the nose!!
I cried and cried. Mama picked me up and loved me. And Daddy loved
on Jett and told her that she was a good girl for teaching the
puppy a lesson! I went on a road trip to Roseburg. I met some
people that Mama said were my grandma and grandpa. I also met a
dauchound named Buddy. I liked playing with him. He barks a lot
though. Daddy said it drove her crazy cuz we were both barking.
Next weekend I get to go camping for the first time. Dad says I
get to sleep in a tent. My friend, Jett, will be walking a bit by
then. Right now, Daddy is typing this for me and I just got put to
bed for the night. Seeya next time. Maybe Dad won't wait
so long next time.
