At
Homestead, the index page must be created using
SiteBuilder. You can use SiteBuilder or another
pagebuilder for the other pages, though. If you use
another pagebuilder, such as FrontPage or HomeSite, on
the index page and other pages, the links to those
pages must include "files/" between your
address and the page name. For example, a link
from the index page to your links page will have to
look like this:
http://yourwebsite.homestead.com/files/links.html
The
reason for this is all imported files, including
imported pages, are placed automatically in a separate
directory from pages created with SiteBuilder. So the
"path" that the browser must take to find
the imported page or files goes from your URL to the
files directory to the file itself. Think of your URL
as being like a tree trunk, the directories like
branches, and the pages and files like leaves.
At
Homestead, your URL path goes to two different
directories, the Web Pages and the Imported Files.
Your imported index page will go to the Imported Files
directory. So when anyone types in your address as
http://yoursite.homestead.com/, their browser will be
looking for a Sitebuilder index page, not your
imported index page.
So,
what if you really like your imported index page and
don't want to convert it to a SiteBuilder page? Make
it your "home" page by naming it "home.html"
or "index2.html" and create an entry page
with Sitebuilder. Link the entry page to your imported
index page using the URL http://yoursite.homestead.com/files/home.html
or http://yoursite.homestead.com/files/index2.html,
whatever you name it. Then you're all set.
