SiteBuilder Basics:
Adding a New Page
& Adding a New Link

Adding a Page

For Online Sitebuilder:

1) After you log in, you will be directed to your My Web Site page. In the "Work on your site" box, click on "Launch SiteBuilder" if you have one site or select a website you wish to work on if you have a Gold, Platinum, or Charter member HS Personal package. You can also click on the Site Manager link in the sidebar to the left.

2) If you've decided to go to the Site Manager, click the "Launch SiteBuilder" button to start a new page or select a website first then click "Launch SiteBuilder."

3) This will begin the process of loading Sitebuilder. Note: You must have accepted the ActiveX download beforehand in order for you to be able to use the online SiteBuilder. If you absolutely refuse to download ActiveX, then you must get the downloadable, offline SiteBuilder. See information about ActiveX and how to download SiteBuilder here

4) When Sitebuilder loads after a couple of minutes or so on a 56K modem, a popup window will appear asking you to choose a Start a New Page or Open an Existing One. Choose Start a New Page.

5) Next, it will ask you to Choose a Custom Style or Start with a Blank Page. Choosing a Custom Style will bring up a Design Wizard, taking you through the steps of creating the page including the navigation, page template, and color scheme. Choosing a Blank Page allows you total freedom to design your page.

6) After you're finished with your page, press Save. This will both save and publish the page. You will be able to see the changes in the browser in realtime. Please note that viewing your webpages will cause you to use your bandwidth.

7) Alternate method of adding a new page: Go to the Page Manager section on the Site Manager page and click the link to Start a New Page. Then follow instructions above.

For Offline Sitebuilder:

1) Click on the Homestead Personal icon on your desktop. Log in.

2) A popup window will ask you to Create a New Web Page or Open an Existing Page. Choose Create a New Web Page.

3) The next window will ask you to choose a Custom Style or Start with a Blank Page. Choosing a Custom Style will bring up a Design Wizard, taking you through the steps of creating the page including the navigation, page template, and color scheme. Choosing a Blank Page allows you total freedom to design your page.

4) After you're finished with the page, press Save and then press Publish. If this is the only page you are publishing, leave the little box next to Publish all pages in Web Site blank. Press OK. If you are publishing more pages in addition to the new one, click in the little box. When you publish just one page at a time, the browser window will open to localhost, allowing you to view your page as it will look in the browser. Publishing the web site (multiple pages) will not open the browser. You'd have to do that manually when you open your browser.

Adding a Link

Text Link:

1) Click on the Text element (T on the toolbar or in the Essentials in the Elements Palette.)

2) Type in the page names you want to create links for.

3) Highlight the first text with your mouse cursor. If it's just one word, double-clicking on the word will highlight it.

4) Click on the Link icon on the toolbar above. An Edit Link window will appear.

5) Select from linking to Existing Homestead Page, Page to be Created Later, URL, Email Address, or Imported File.

6) If you select an Imported File, the link will become a download link. That's covered in another topic in more detail.

7) Next, select how you want the link to open. Selecting the first one will open the link in the same window as the current page. Selecting the second one will open the link in a different window from the current page. The different window is also known as a popup window.

8) When you're done, you can save the page (online SB) or save and publish the page (offline SB).
