The reason the moon changes color is due to the
pollution in our atmosphere. We always notice
pollution when we look at the horizon rather than straight up. This is also when the moon appears very large, when we see it coming up or going down. Likewise, when it's straight up is when it looks tiny, as I said, and this is also when we see
a whiter color because we're not looking through the
extra layers of smog. O.K, so when we see the moon in the horizon, our mind's perception creates the moon larger because it is comparing
other objects in the horizon. In other words, you see mountains, trees, telephone poles, houses, etc. and
your mind compares the distances of all those
against the moon, trying to decide just far away and how big that thing is! When you look straight up, your mind only has the infinity of empty
space to consider and no objects to compare against, thus causing you to see it as a tiny ball in the sky. This is how our eyes and mind perceive our world and the universe, by comparing everything with everything else. If your mind is creating this "moon illusion" for you...then "I
wonder"...what else is not really as it appears? I've always said...........
