The Lower Wolf Hiking Trails are easily accessed from Priest River, Idaho. Drive west from Priest River on U.S. Highway 2. Cross the bridge across the Pend Oreille River and proceed into Newport, Washington. Take Highway 20 out of Newport toward Metalline Falls. Turn north onto Warren Avenue at the intersection of Warren and Highway 20. Follow Warren Aveneue for about a half mile to the trailhead and parking lot. (Note: Warren Avenue is near the Newport Ranger District Office. |

Trail 304 is a hiking trail that passes through a mixed conifer forest. There are several scenic viewpoints along the trail. Hikers can rest on park benches, such as the ones shown in the photograph on the left (above), at the viewpoints. The trail is three-fourths of a mile long and rises 80 feet. The viewpoint at the highest elevation offers a view of Ashenfelter Bay (see photograph above, right) on the Pend Oreille River. |

Trail 305 can be travelled by those confined to a wheelchair who want a difficult challenge.
The photograph at the left shows one of the best maintained sections of Trail 305.
The surface of the trail is gravel and the trail is about three-fourths of a mile long. |

The 304/305 trail system is very close to Highway 20 and nosie from the highway is discernable along the entire route. There are no restroom facilities at the trailhead; however, you are really not very far from Newport, Washington and the conveniences of city life. |
