Trail 301
Granite Falls
Trail 301 begins at the Stagger Inn Campground on Road 1134. From the trailhead one can follow a 1-mile loop. Hiking clockwise around the loop from the trailhead, one immediately encounters views of Lower Granite Falls before coming to the main trail. At this point, one can return to the trailhead (thereby completing the loop) or follow the main trail for a half mile to the Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars.
The photograph at the left shows the entrance to the Stagger Inn Campground. A parking area and a vault toilet are available at the campground. The trailhead, denoted by the sign shown in the photograph (left, middle) is visible from the parking area.

A 365-foot long foot trail along Granite Creek can be accessed from the trailhead. The foot trail leads you to a viewpoint of the Lower Falls cascading over sheer rock. This is the view that is on the post cards of the area.

The best time to visit the Falls is in late May or early June since the runoff from the snow melt makes the Falls more impressive than it is during other times during the year. Travel to the Falls during late May can be severly hampered if the snow received during the previous winter season was much above normal.

Continue north on Road 302 for another 8 miles to Road 1134, then turn left onto Road 1134 and go another mile to the road's end at the campground The turn onto Road 1134 is well marked with signs indicating the route to Granite Falls and the Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars.
