Trail 320
Brown's Lake
Brown's Lake is easily accessed from Priest River, Idaho. Drive west from Priest River on U.S. Highway 2. Just before the bridge across the Pend Oreille River, turn right onto LeClerc Road and follow it for about 20 miles until you come to the bridge into Usk. Don't cross the bridge. Turn right at the bridge onto County Road 3389. Proceed about 4 miles until you come to a "Y" in the road near the King's Lake Snowmobile Parking Area. Bear left at the "Y". You will then be on Forest Service Road 5030. Stay on this road to its end (about 4 miles). You will then be at the entrance to the Brown's Lake campground. If you wish to drive to the Fish Interpretive Site, turn right just before entering the campground. Follow the road to the trailhead parking area. From there, a trail  leads to the interpretive site and connects with Trail 320. Following Trail 320 takes you to a cedar grove which is open to camping. Continuing along Trail 320, you will arrive at the boat ramp inside Brown's Lake campground. The trail offers great views of the lake.
The photograph at the right shows my trusty old Ford Ranger returning from the Fish Interpretive Site and turning towards the entrance to Brown's Lake Campground on Forest Service Road 5030.
A viewing platform has been erected at the Fish Interpretive Site. The viewing platform allows you to watch the fish spawn during April and May - assuming, of course, that the road to the lake and the spawning area is open (i.e., clear of heavy snow). The spawning area is visible in the photograph on the left, above. The other photograph (above, right) shows Barbara reading about the habits of the fish that spawn in the Brown's Creek area.

The trail from the Fish Interpretive Site to the Brown's Lake Campground is about a mile long and the terrain is fairly level. Restroom facilities are available at the campground.
