17. Maturity-   To be a good leader, personal power and recognition should be secondary to the development of your employees. In other words maturity is based on recognizing that more can be accomplished by empowering others than can be by ruling others.

 

18. Empathy-   Being able to put yourself in other person’s shoes is a key trait of leaders today. Without empathy, you can’t build trust, without trust, you’ll never be able to get the best effort from employees.

 

19. Integrity-   Uprightness of character and soundness of moral principles, absolute truthfulness and honesty. Integrity means establishing a set of values and adhering to those values. It provides the solid foundation for developing trust within the unit.

 

 20. Loyalty-   A 3-D trait which includes faithfulness to superiors, peers and subordinates. Leaders must first display an unquestionable sense of loyalty before they can expect members of their unit to be loyal.

 

21. Commitment- Complete devotion to duty.

 

22. Decisiveness-   Ability to reach decisions promptly and to announce them in a clear, forceful manner.

 

23. Selflessness-   Avoidance of providing for one’s comfort and personal advancement at the expense of others.

 

24. Courage- A mental quality that recognizes fear of danger or criticism, but enables the leader to proceed in face of it with calmness and firmness.

 

25. Endurance- The mental and physical stamina measured by the ability to stand pain, fatigue, distress and hardship.
