Project Overview

1. Description of our team:

The team comprised of five eleventh grade Psychology students along with their teacher. The team members are as different as chalk and cheese, but we think it has benefited the project, as it is a combination of many views.

·      Vibhuti Joshi, 16years, is a quite and efficient worker. The project interested her instantly as she is a budding social worker and takes interest in any matter related to social upliftment.

·       Mukti Rani, 16years, is not only academically brilliant but participates in debate, quizzes and has represented our school for many competitions.

·       Tanvi Vijay, 16 years, is the dancing star of the school. She is intelligent, enthusiastic and full of energy. She enjoys creativity and doing original piece of work.

·       Rajat Setia, 16 years, is a bright and focused girl. She does not hesitate in voicing her opinion even if it is against the stream and this quality has benefited the project during our brainstorming sessions.

·       Chetana Lakhotia, 16 years, has joined our school this year only but her friendly nature has already won her a loyal and large army of friends. She is bright, enthusiastic and has good command over language.

·       Mrs. Rajshree Tewari, our Psychology teacher is a great source of inspiration for us. She has excelled in Psychology from the Mumbai University and has specialized in the field of counseling. Apart from being an excellent teacher, she is also an enlightening human being. She is extremely hardworking and very soft spoken.

2.   Summary of the project:

Since time immemorial, human race has been fortunate enough to have many excellent leaders. Civilization has reached its zenith today, thanks to them. But today if we ask anyone to name 10 effective leaders of our times, after Nelson  Mandela, Su Ki…and probably a few more...we will have to think hard.

When we narrowed down our horizon and concentrated only on our country the situation was still grim. Many could not count beyond leaders like our current President and Prime minister! ours is a country with leaders of many hues, cults and ideologies. But still there hardly are any leaders who have emerged as undisputed role models. This is a sad state of affairs for a country like India which has given excellent leaders like Gandhi to the entire world.

In general, the impression of people about politics and leaders has changed drastically in India. From yesterdays high level of veneration and devotion it has come down to distrust, disgust and distance. Hardly any leader is trusted or accepted nationally and what is  worse is that the young generation shows no interest in joining politics either. This we felt is not good for a healthy, prosperous India that we want to see. Unless a democratic country like ours understands the intricacies of leadership, future is all but rosy.

So this project is a small attempt in this direction. It is a wake up call not only for India but also for every citizen anywhere in the world who cares… and dares to dream with his eyes wide open!

3.      Our computer and internet access:

·       50% of students having internet access at home.

·       In school - It is available but only in computer lab. it is mainly used for computer students and for school work. Although it was technically available, practically the access was difficult with our fixed timetable.

·       Students could have stayed back and done the work but it could not be done regularly as they had their tuitions for the other subjects as well… each having a different schedule!

 4. Problems we had to overcome:

Our first problem was our unfamiliarity with the idea of making a web project. None of us are very proficient with the software and our knowledge was restricted to E-mails and web surfing. So preparing a web project ourselves seemed very challenging in the beginning. Our internet access was also limited and having so many print outs was not a cakewalk either.

The academic pressure in India is very high and students were pulled in all directions.

Contacting people, leaders and media was very hard to achieve. But as the challenges became bigger ,our zeal to conquer them became more and more strong.

5. Our Project Sound Bite:

Making this project was an extremely enriching experience for all of us. We were politically naive, socially passive before we embarked on this journey of understanding the concept of leadership. We feel our understanding about Indian leaders has increased by leaps and bounds! It taught us a lot about ourselves too. It convinced us that if we really strive hard then sky is also not the limit. Even with our meager internet access, financial hassels and academic pressures we can join hands with our friends across countries. It was very fulfilling indeed. We will also like to state that this project is in no way a political statement.
