In order to test my hypothesis that the true proportion of internet users who download music using a P2P network is greater than .14, I chose to conduct a 1-proportion z-test. First, I had to collect a sample and take a survey. For the sake of convenience, I chose to sample from a group of randomly selected DGS seniors involved in the band program. I obtained a list of all of the seniors from the band directors and assigned each senior a digit in 1-digit increments. Using my calculator, I randomly selected 75 digits. By matching each random digit to a senior, I was able to pose my survey question to each student. My question, always phrased the same way, was �Do you download music using a P2P network or purchase it?� From this sample, 56%, or 42, of the students responded �yes�, while 44%, or 33, responded �no�. This distribution can be seen in the pie chart below:
