Tanjore Trip

We had a well deserved break this winter. We went on a four day trip to the East coast of Tamil Nadu, encircling the Tanjore, Kumbakonam, Nagapattinam and Trichy district. On the fly, we had a chance to visit Karaikal (Pondy).

The intention is to enjoy the rich heritage and culture brought up by the Chola regime. The best way to do this is to look at the ancient temples and sculptures built during the Chola dynasty. We visitied temples built by the Chola kings during the 11th - 13th centuries. Then came the Nayakkars, who also enriched the tradition and culture by building temples that stands for their age (14th -.16th centuries) and tradition. The temples built by the Cholas are known for their stone sculptures. The temples built by Nayakkars has paintings with natural colors.

Kumbakonam - famously known as "Temple city" has around 200 odd temples build by the ancient kings.

I have listed all the places that we visited during the trip and have provide images depicting those.
