Astuatha is a powerful serpent said to lurk in the waters north of Ansalon.  It is said to be an especially old creature, and is a dreaded foe of many seafarers. The existance of the creature is often regarded as mere legend, as none have ever lived to speak of their encounter with this beast.

The creature is said to be nearly one-hundred eighty feet in length, with deep blue scales coating a powerful body as thick as the trunk of a vallenwood tree.  The sleek head of the creature holds two red eyes split by vertical black pupils.  The teeth of Astautha are the size of swords and a thin ridge of spikes crests its back.

The creature is of low intelligence and it is not thought possible to communicate with it.

Combat:  Astautha is a killing machine and when active often devours entire vessels whole.  Normal attacks are made by a powerful lunge which can consume thousands of men or just a single person.  It typically seeks the easiest target when in combat, though the creature is said to be unparalelled in strength and ferocity.

Once every turn, the creature can also produce enough of its poisonous venom to spit at an opponent.  This is a contact poison and has a splash radius of 20'.  Anyone failing a saving throw vs. poison is slain within 1d6 turns.

The creature's hide is exceptionally resistant to acid, heat or fire attacks (90 %).

Habitat/Society:  It is fortunate that Astautha is active only for short periods of time.  Typically, the monster sleeps deep below the sea, preferring to rest within the bones of slain kraken and giant squid.

Ecology:  Astautha can eat nearly anything, though it prefers meat.
