Star Wars toys reviews

some of my thoughts on the figures i have. i probably won't review all of them.

regular size action figures - 2002

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Outland Peasant Disguise)
Kind of cool; a throwback to the old days of Star Wars figures because of the retractable lightsaber in his right arm. Two things wrong, though: one, the hair/face - looks like Screech from "Saved By The Bell!" Two, the hair color... why does Hasbro think Hayden's hair is so light? They can use technology to scan an actor's face to create some of the best likenesses we have seen on toys... but they cannot master something as ancient as mixing colors properly? Come on.

  2. Padme Amidala (Arena Escape)

  3. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Coruscant Chase)

  4. C-3PO (Protocol Droid)

  5. Kit Fisto (Jedi Master)
He's my favorite of the Old Reublic Jedi that we've seen. I don't know what it is about him, but he's cool. The figure is great too, except the common Hasbro/Kenner problem of falling over when on display. (Makes me wonder why they don't include a free display stand for every figure!) Also, he could use a bit more articulation (to counter the dizzy spells he has.. hehe). I think that would be a general gripe of mine, it always has been -- that Kenner (and Hasbro now) should articulate the figures more like the G.I. Joes of old. At least somewhat more...

  6. Super Battle Droid

  7. Boba Fett (Kamino Escape)

  8. Tusken Raider (Female with Child)
Yikes... I don't have this yet, and I may not get it at all. I noticed recently that the left arm doesn't move up and down; it only swivels, like she's turning a door knob, that kind of movement. (The left arm is posed straight out away from the body.) I don't know... she is scuplted well, and even comes with a Tusken child.

  9. Captain Typho

  10. Shaak Ti (Jedi Master)

  11. Battle Droid (Arena Battle)
A real disappointment. I thought he would be so much cooler than he is... to start, his knees don't bend. Kind of sucks when you're trying to pose him on your desk, and no matter what you do he likes to tip over. (Methinks he had one too many Droid Lagers.)

  12. Plo Koon (Arena Battle)

  13. Jango Fett (Kamino Escape)
In my opinion, perhaps the best Episode 2 figure that has been released. He may not be loaded with accessories, but the detail, the likeness of the actor's face, and the features are just the best. The blasters fit in their holsters; the helmet is removable; jetpack launches a missle (though it is kind of a weird way to make it launch); and the snare (the string) is fairly long.

  14. R2-D2 (Coruscant Sentry)
Deep-doo, boop-doo-dee! Rirr-rurr! One cool figure, even though the third leg doesn't retract and the head doesn't turn. Colors are dead on (finally!), the sounds are great, and the little caterpillar critters are a nice addition.

  15. Geonosian Warrior
"Fall Down Figure of the Year" Award recipient.

  16. Dexter Jettster

  17. Clone Trooper
Great articulation + horrible pose = crappy figure. Sorry, try again Hasbro.

  18. Zam Wesell (Bounty Hunter)
Great articulation + horrible pose = crappy figure. Sorry, try again Hasbro.

  19. Royal Cuard (Coruscant Security)
Wow, the non-candlestick version! He's pretty cool; he can either stand at guard or hold the electro-prod out to zap someone!

  20. Saesee Tiin (Jedi Master)

  21. Nikto (Jedi Knight)
The legs aren't articulated. Cheap, cheap! Otherwise a pretty cool guy, has that cool "Force" swirly thing.

  22. Anakin Skywalker (Hangar Duel)
The best Anakin figure so far. The upcoming "Tatooine attack" one may be better though... we'll see...

  23. Yoda (Jedi Master)

  24. Jar Jar Binks (Gungan Senator)

  25. Taun We

  26. Luminara Unduli
One cool Jedi. I like to stick the deflected blast shot on her left hand, as though she either pulled a Vader (deflected the shot with her hand) or is shooting some kind of bolt from her hand. I hope they make her apprentice, Bariss Ofee.

  27. Count Dooku
Very cool! If only my figure didn't have a stuck right leg -- it's about to break off, it's so tight. His lightsaber is great (except the blade doesn't come off like the other figures' sabers do), the likeness is great, and the overall sculpt is great. Needs more articulation though, especially the left arm (looks rather awkward).

  28. Mace Windu (Geonosian Rescue)

  29. Luke Skywalker (Bespin Duel)
One of the best Star Wars figures to come out from Hasbro! And this outfit of Luke's is one of my favorites (which is why I have the replica jacket.. hehe). Great sculpt, great articulation (almost a G.I. Joe), great accessories -- the blaster fits in its holster, the weathervane is to scale, and the lightsaber looks like the best Skywalker toy saber so far. I could do without the "battle action feature" though... which is why I bought an extra to customize. The only thing I would add to this already-great figure is elbow articulation so his arms can be better posed.

I have all three variations on card: "bloody" hand (w/ magnet), non-bloody hand (w/ magnet), and non-bloody hand (plastic peg, non-magnetic). Usually I don't care about variations, but I happened to get that "controverisal bloody hand" version on the card, so I decided to get the other variants to keep on the card as well.

  30. Darth Vader (Bespin Duel)

  31. Jango Fett (Final Battle)

  32. Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo battle?)
I'm sick of seeing this character being made many times over. Give us something new Hasbro. Even worse, I read somewhere that this figure is simply an unreleased Qui-Gon scuplt being re-used.

  33. Endor Rebel Soldier
Another great figure, loaded with detail and great accessories.

  34. Massiff (comes w/ a wingless Geonosian Warrior)
There will be another version of the Massiff coming out, including a Tusken Raider. I don't know if it's supposed to replace this version...? Kind of a cool figure (the Geonosian, I mean), though on mine the right leg was so tight that moving it around caused it to break off! #$%^ Oh well, at least the Massiff and Nexu can fight over the leg.

  35. Orn Free Taa

  36. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Starfighter Pilot)
Another disappointment. For a figure "made" to fit in the Jedi Starfigter toy, he sure doesn't fit well.

  37. Han Solo (Endor Raid)
Woohoo, yet another variation on yet another newer figure: the button to activate Han's arm action is either white ("rare") or silver (corrected). I have the white button version on the card... yippee.

  38. Chewbacca (Cloud City Escape)
The best Chewbacca made to date! And what a cool pack-in: an electronic C-3PO, whose eyes and back panel light up. I'm thinking of getting a second one to cut apart all the 3PO pieces... which, by the way, is missing the lower right leg. (The silver leg.)

  39. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine

  40. Djas Puhr (Alien Bounty Hunter)
Arg... not as cool as I thought he would be. He can't stand up for his life, and the weird shirt front that is molded as part of his holster belt prevents him from sitting down completely. I guess he's meant to lean against the cantina bar or something...

  41. Padme Amidala (Naboo Pilot)

  42. Darth Maul (Sith Training)

  43. Anakin Skywalker (Tatooine Ambush)

  44. Ki Adi Mundi

  45. Ephant Mon

  46. Teemto Pagalies

Plus many others yet to be announced....
