Ok here are a few of the different types of tools I use to create the great pieces that you have seen on my site. I really use just about anything around the house I can find. I only have about three pieces that have been bought at the local hobby stores. My brother kevin and myself have our favorites. Mine is a homemade tool I use. Its the pencil with the .20 safety wire twisted into just the just right shape. Everyone is different so you just have to do some trial and error stuff. Really anything with a point or curve on the end. This doesn't include your head.
The basic tools. Tim the tool man would not be proud.
My Favorite. Yup that baby is homebuilt! I know hard to tell huh? If youd like I'll send you a detailed drawing so you can build your own!!
Rocks! Yup you got it Rocks. When making the base for your pieces these things work great. You can use anything that has texture on your clay. But these things are everywere and are cheap too.If you have trouble finding some in your area Ill be gald to sell you some of mine. Although I am really attached to them I guess I could find it in my heart to sell you some of my personel rocks.
The soft squishy stuff.
Ok here is the stuff. If you are going to do any sculpting then you first need this stuff. Super sculpey is the best medium. Now I know if you run down to your local hobby lobby you will no dout find a varity of several types of sculpting clays to choose from. But have no douts about it.Just look for this green and white box. Now you can order it online through different art suppliers if you want to wait but if you are like me and hate waiting for your stuff to get to you, this can be found at hobby stores. The price, depending on who you are buying from, ranges in price from 6.99 to 9.99 for a 1 pound box. One pound goes pretty far depending on the size of your scuplture. This clay straight out of the box is rather soft. I like to roll it into several size balls and let it sit to harden up a little. Plus I keep the room I work in at about -50 degrees. My wife can attest to that. I don't know if these folks have a website but this is 2001 Im sure they do.
This is Magic Sculpt. After seeing how many other sculpters used this I had to give it a try. I give it an A+. Now this, unlike super sculpey, is self hardening. Because of that you only have a little over two or three hours to use it. I chose to use it to make the base for my models. I used styrofome and a cardboard box for one base. This stuff sticks to everything! The manufacturer recomends using talcom powder on hands and surface you will be useing. It won't hurt the clay. I also used the rocks to make the bases have a neet texture. It comes in different sizes. I bought the 5 lbs. each tub weighs 2.5 lbs. you mix the stuff in equal
parts. No scales are required. Go to the website to get mixing instructions. Its real easy. I could not find the stuff locally so I did have to order online. I paid 33.00 after shipping cost. A little over 6.00 a pound. Not bad. This clay self dries overnight and is hard as concrete!! Its really cool stuff. I'll put a link the website soon. The folks at magic sculpt were great also. I got a fast responce and e-mail confermation of my order. Now mine took a week to get,but i ordered the week after sept. 11th so mail was a little slow. You definately can't go wrong with this clay.
