Answering Machines and the People who won't use them.
True story.
I'm online, working on a page (now defunct) and I get an ICQ message from my sister. It seems my sister-in-law had been trying to call me but couldn't get thru...duh I was online. What I didn't understand was why she didn't just leave a message with my answering service? I check it as soon as I get offline for that reason, to see if anyone left me a message while I was online. Not to belittle my sister-in-law's intelligence but I guess it was too hard for her to figure out how to leave a message...you know just talk into the freaking phone. Instead I get bombarded with ICQ messages from the rest of my family letting me know that my phone was busy...again DUHHH.
What really bugs me is the idea that just because she feels the need to talk to me I should stop what I'm doing online, dissconnect, and call her so she can ask me if I can babysit her too demon spawn for free for a "few" hours, mind you few usually means at least 5 hours. I'd rather stay online and ignore her, after all if it was really important she would leave a message.
Now we have this software that forwards calls to and online answering machine when we're online. When someone calls, this little box pops up and lets us know that someone somewhere thinks what they have to say is more important than what we are doing online. Just today while trying to check my mail I received 5 calls from the same number (the sister-in-law) spaced 3 minutes apart...
BRinGING...BRIngING....box pops up with name and number...oh its Joyce....wait to see if she leaves a message...ahhhh it says she does...click to hear message (meaning i leave the yahoo page and go somwhere else) and there it is, call recieved blah blah blah...message 0 seconds long...huh??? 0 seconds...must not have said anything..oh well couldn't be that important...back to yahoo...
The above happened 4 more times untill I finally said screw it and dissconnected. Wait 20 minutes...no call, so I call her to find out what in the hell was so important that she wouldn't leave a freaking message. Guess what, " Can you watch the kids 2 weeks from next Monday for a few hours???".
Next time I'm ignoring all calls, if its important then she can email me, that is if she can figure out how to first.
