Oxycotin  is a time release capsule pain reliever, from what I've read it seems to really help those who have chronic pain deal with their pain, and still  have normal lives. However, some misguided idiots, in their quest for a new high, have discovered that if they crush the capsules then snort it they bypass the time release formala giving themselves an instant high, that has reportedly sent some 60 or more six feet under pushing up daisies. Now this is how I see it, we have a pain reliever, that works quite well for those it is intended to be used by, being abused by those who aren't supposed to have it. Not only are they not supposed to have it but they have obtained it illegally, are using it a manner prohibited by instructions for use and are dropping dead because of it. I don't see a problem here. If you are going to make the decision to abuse anything then you are going to have to face the consequences of your actions aren't you? Commting criminal acts to obtain and abuse a drug then dropping dead becasue of what you have done sounds resonable to me, but I must be in the minority on this for example:(excerpt from : Scare-Mongering Over 'Hillybilly Heroin' Deprives the Rest of Us )
"The Drug Enforcement Administration, normally concerned with illegal drug dealers, is threatening to force a 95 percent cutback in OxyContin production unless it gets "more cooperation" from the manufacturer. A doctor who claims his small western Virginia community was "devastated" by OxyContin abuse is circulating a petition asking the Food and Drug Administration to remove OxyContin from the market. Personal injury lawyers already are suing OxyContin's Stamford, Conn.-based manufacturer."

So it seems the drug abusers aren't at fault here, not for their criminal acts in obtaining the oxycontin, or their illegal use of it but the manufacturer is for making it. Get real already. Since when is a maufacturer responsible when someone has illegally obtained and then abused a product? Isn't there such a thing as personal responsibility anymore? Aren't people responsible for the what results from their choices good or bad?  Jeeez...what's next? Is the FDA going to start pressuring the auto industry because people die in car accidents? Or is the DEA going to go after the auto and flight industry because it "facilitates" the movement of drugs (along with people, goods, etc?)
It is ridiculous that anyone could or would be deprived of a drug they may need because of the abuse by some darwin award candidates. Unfortunately it may well happen and as long as most of the public follow the pipers song of "It's not my fault" it will continue to happen.
