*Sigh* Mankind is really disgusting sometimes...even more so when it is probably rationalized that, since it's an "assistended living" facility--it's being paid for by kin...the sooner the man or woman dies the "better". *Sigh*
That was really the only bad part about the trip I guess. Not having a shower--I've gotten kinda accustomed to meeting realy cool tori fans and getting hooked up I suppose...It took me forever to find the theatre in Philadephia--I knew it would be a bitch, none of the directions I could find were very detailed...The show was great and I was correct in assuming I'd read the ticket incorrectly--it was the fourth row of the *second section*...still a good seat, directly to the left of the soundboard--the tape sounds quite nice so far, and the view was good enough for me.
Other than the show, I did nothing remarkable in Philly except drive around lost for a bit. Headed out directly after the show ended...THEY PLAYED BOOT CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that song!
Woke up at the rest stop and headed into Boston--did the graveyard then I hit the Musuem of Fine Arts, looked over the "famous" Boston Commons--they had one of those outdoor skating rinks so I watched the kiddies and not-so-kiddies which made me smile for a bit. Lord help me but I'm starting to think I'd like to be a father...
I wasn't super impressed with the Boston MfA...the building itself did nothing for me and there really wasn't all that much displayed that caught my eye--a couple El Grecos and Renoirs..."Portrait of a Woman" by Picasso was hanging there--that was a nice surprise. I've just plain resolved I am NOT a fan of ornamental/decorative art unless it's something completely stretching the boundaries of the norm, nor am I a big fan of japanese, chinese, or egyptian sculptor (which is the predominant items portrayed from such cultures at MfA's) I guess mainly what I like are paintings and some sculpture. My favorite paintings are acryllics or oils--heavy heavy applications...I like to see dimension in the actual layering of the paint--Jackson Pollock is *great* at that, and they had a few of his paintings...of course the van goghs that they had...well, I was struck by one or two but that was it...
Had a "hot salsa" chicken burrito at this hole in the hall joint--didn't have nothing on Hey Juan's back in Arcata though :( ;*) It was decently hot at least...
I must say however, the whole "PJ-played-this-venue-so-it-must-be-the-shit" has got to stop. I'd built up much better images of the place than actually existed. Of course, five years later, but, even still...It wasn't a *bad* place, not at all...just it's seen better days :( I don't think either Darby Theater (In Philly) or the Orpheum have much on the Warfield...or even the Fillmore really...
Of course, I do tend to be a bit biased when it comes to SF venues...so sue my fucking ass. (sorry, i just felt the desire to use gratuitous profanity, bite me)
One prick sitting in front and slightly off to the right of me in Boston got tossed out for smoking--I was glad cuz he was talking and making ruckus with his friends from the second he sat down (which was about 4 songs in no less) till his friends left (about 8 or 9 songs in I think). I didn't really mind all the noise *too* much, because the sound wasn't as crisp where I was up in the balcony that second night...but it was hindering my immediate enjoyment...grr....I listened to it in the car and he didn't sound too bad...
Boot Camp! Rock...I knew the sets would be virtually the same both nights from reviews of the other shows--in fact I had the general setlist already pegged b4 chris and his band even took the stage (the keyboardist, btw, was HOT!) But I didn't really care. Like the same exact set has ever stopped me before? There were differences between the two shows--subtle, but enough...i personally think the second night they put on a better set...despite the distractions and lesser sound...
Grr...tommorrow is work. I realized driving home though (which didn't go so bad btw) that monday is going to be my only normal work day...tuesday/wednesday/thursday is supposed to be live fire rehersal and execution--then thursday-saturday is FTX...Two q's I have that have yet to be answered...is my court date wednesday for reckless driving kicking me off live fire...and if not, how is this FTX going to go over for me if I hafta be at live fire?
jeesh-lotsa ICQ going on here!
