Well, I decided to refresh and redo the journal. It's plain right now because I'm too lazy to go look up the hexidecimal codes for some nice colour combinations. Anyway...
I saw Mamma-Mia! (the ABBA musical) for the fifth time today. The subway was fun, trying to finish that bottle of water before I got to the theatre. Then I froze some on my walk from the station to the Royal Alexandra. But otherwise, the show was great as it always has been excluding some cast members who didn't make such good impressions on me. This was the second time I was going to see the second Canadian cast. I am partial in some ways to the first cast, Adam Brazier and Louise Pitre in particular, but otherwise some cast members have been great.
I'd definitely have to say that I am partial to David Keeley as Sam, just because I liked his Horatio at Stratford. He has this huge voice that I'd like, myself being a female tenor. Another cast member I'm into is Raymond Miller, the picture on the left is of him. He's a great Pepper; not that Sal Scozzari wasn't good but I love this guy. His expressions are great and he's good looking (sorry, I had to put that one in); he moves well in the dancing sequences and is a really big ham. When you talk about Pepper, you have to talk about Tanya, who's being played by Tamara Bernier. Tamara's young and frankly does not look mid-forties. This time around I think they actually made her up to look the age though; unless there is a great difference from Upper Balcony and row C of Orchestra. :) Tamara's predecessor Mary Ellen Mahoney sort of got on my nerves sometimes but was pretty funny. I just like Tamara that much more and I love how she belts those "does you mother know" lines in Does Your Mother Know. A fun thing that happened at this show was during this scene where she's taunting Pepper (Raymond Miller), Eddie (Ryan Kelly), and this other guy from the ensemble (Paul Nolan). She was in a swimsuit and had taken the wrap off to taunt Pepper with. The wrap got all tangled when she tried to tie it back around her and she just threw it away. I loved her expression!
In short, it was a great show. Though I don't like Camilla Scott, she has improved a little bit and I'm glad for that. I just don't think I'll ever like Peter Deiwick. He can sing fine but I just don't like him. All bad things aside, I shouldn't say too much anyway as a bad contralto who can't find a vocal teacher and won't ever make it in musical theatre. I'll just enjoy my good seats and be a good little theatregoer.
One last thing I am quite ashamed of. Just as the second act started, I was rifling around in my purse for my hand cream. Unbeknownst to be I probably rifled a little too hard and my camera went off. I was seriously counting the minutes until an usher would come and tell me to get out. CAMERAS ARE NOT ALLOWED after all. Thank goodness I enjoyed the rest of the show and nobody came. I am though forever ashamed. I wouldn't take pictures of the show like that. I only had my camera on me to take pictures of the buildings outside after the show. Next time I'll know to leave my camera in its case. Sheesh. :)
Au revoir!
