SNOW DAY 2003
After a good few snowless winters, at the beginning of January 2003, most of the South East of England woke to find 2" plus of snow on the ground. It was a welcome break for most after the floods parts of Kent had been seeing for the past few weeks...

No one was prepared for the problems of getting to work that morning, the roads were covered with ice as well as snow. You can just make out the man pushing his motor bike up the road between the tree and lamp post in the photo above. My sister tried heading to work the same day as this motorcyclist and ended up skidding into the kerb. Some kind person stopped and helped her out, and said he wasn't risking going any further himself and was heading home.

It seems not all members of the family were as eager to get out into the snow as I was. Above you can see my Dad laughing at us out the window. Just before he was forced to come out himself to scrap the car off (right)...

What a lucky shot the one to the right was. It wasnt until I was putting the photos on the page I realised how well it went together...

The heaviest of the snow fell the next morning between 7am and late afternoon to add to this (photos below). Another 4 or so inches piled on top of the previous days taking it up to 6" plus in parts. Even Bluewater close this day! They had 8" fall around the shopping centre closing off half of the car parks Not only this but most bus services and train services were cancelled due to the amount of snow that fell. Also into our local town centre there was a 15 mile tail back taking people more than 2 hours at a time to get through...

I think my Dad enjoyed taking his landie out for its first trek in the snow under his ownership. Come in handy to as It was the only way to travel down our road. Where the snow had started to melt the previous day, there was a couple of centimeters of hidden ICE under that white stuff...

The chance of a ride in the landie also brough my Mum out of hiding. Not often you get a photo of her. She is to a camera, what a vampire is to the sun... Invisible!

Something I have never done before... Made a Snow Angel! If only the snow had been that little bit deeper and smoother though

Above is my eldest dog, Judy, having a sniff around. She didn't seem at all interested in the snow. To the right, my other dog Gizmo and myself in outside. Gizmo hasn't really seen snow that much before, and I dont think she was too sure of what to make of it...

For some it was their FIRST ever snowfall. This is a photo of across the roads little girl. She must only be around 18 months. Her Mum said that it was comical watching her out in the snow for the first time.

To the right is a photo taken the day after to show how thick the snow was on my car when it came to clearing it off. I think I should have done it when it first snow fell though as there was a nice layer of ice on the windows, and also around the door seals. So much so that my locks were all iced up, and even when they de-iced, my doors were still sealed shut for a few more hours!
