Straight lines are rare in wild Nature.

We took the existing concrete path pieces and rearranged them
to minimize path space and to build a patio.

We planted the patio with creeping thyme.

The soil here is heavy clay and gets pretty wet in the Winter.
After
A food forest is evolving here with fruit trees, berry bushes, perennial vegetables, and groundcovers. The understory hasn't been fully planted, yet.
After
We extended the path around the house and built mounds for specific plants, like loquat, avocado, nectarine, Meyer lemon, pineapple guava, and paw paw. The entire site was mulched with three inches of wood chips. Work is still in progress.
