I was talking with someone about that very subject a couple of days ago and came to some interesting conclusions. Or one interesting conclusion - that woman was the defining archetype for both men and women and is the only natural archetype that can resolve the the child-parent cognitive dissonance I'm sure many adolescents would, like me, associate with Death, "son of the Goddess of Night". I am lucky in that my spiritual discipline has always invited this association. However, I find my greatest difficulty comes in the fact that society has become largely ignorant of this paradigm (that of Goddess). Then, in terms of the forces of agency and communion that govern human biology (or animal biology or Nature), both men and women are equal save for men are physically "farther" from the female image (if one takes image over intuition) while men are given to image-in the female as unification while the woman, closer, to the physical archetype, is more given to intuiting the unification with Goddess. Of course, having said that, we can easily see the universe of discrepencies from this simple model, further evidence of the essential unity of what, for me, become processes of image and intuition, agency and communion, which, like yin and yang, are as intrinsic to consciousness, identity, and ontology, as light and dark are to life.
