Did you know about The Holocaust?
Gays were convicted as criminals under Paragraph 175 of the Nazi government and sent to concentration camps in 1938? Considered to be a part of the riot that was destroying Germany, tens of thousands of gays were killed. When the concentration camps were 'liberated' gays were still convicted criminals and were transfered to German prisons. Even thoughts of same sex desire were enough to condemn someone to this fate.
What other historical events do you not know everything about?Did you know about The Pink Triangle?
Prisoners of the Nazi war camps were given a triangle, color coded to their offense or origin: yellow for jews, brown for gypsies, black for anti-socials, and pink for homosexuals. Pink triangles were larger than the other triangles so that the "scum of the scum" could be easily recognized. Jews, gypsies and homosexuals were given the worst treatment at the camps. Today the pink triangle has been reclaimed as a symbol of pride.

Did you know about The Black Triange?
Lesbianism was not included under Paragraph 175, the clause that made homosexuality illegal in Germany. Lesbians, therefore did not get a pink triangle when sent to concentration camps. The black triangle, for anti-social behavior, was given to women who did not bear children and work in the kitchen. Lesbians, prostitutes and women refusing to bear children were considered to be anti-social and wore the inverted black triangle.

Did you know about the Stonewall Riots?
Riots broke outside the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwhich Villiage, June 27, 1969. Despite payoffs, a corrupt police arrested patrons of the bar. The patrons fought back. The riots were over by 3:35am Saturday morning, but by night, after word had spread, thousands of people crowded the streets. Police were unable to prevent the gathering, as the rioters chanted, "Gay Power!" The riots are thought to be the beginning of the gay rights movement, despite previous organizations prior attempts. June 23rd became Gay Pride Day.
